Scarlet glanced up at the other side of the chasm and saw a smile spread across Octal’s horrifically disfigured face. Without a second of hesitation, Scarlet leapt off the ledge like a diver from a diving board, and soared downward toward Sage’s falling figure. Seconds before he hit the ocean she swept him up into her arms. “I’ve got you,” she whispered, holding him to her chest. Sage was heavy. Scarlet was only able to hover. They were barely inches above the treacherous water. She knew she couldn’t fly up because that would reveal to Octal that they had survived and he would launch an attack on them right away.

Scarlet was happy and thrilled to be out of the house, she knew about the people that he stationed outside the house to keep an eye on Darcy. She boarded a cab to the bar to see Frederic and tell him about the failure of their plan to have Alexander abducted. She got speechless as she got out of the cab and saw the Leader of the Reachers. “What are you doing here?” Scarlet managed to ask the question as she dragged him to the side of the bar that looked a bit dark because she didn't want Frederic to see him. “You're not supposed to be here.” She added as he flared up, raising his voice.

I reached for our bag; my muscles relaxed as I picked it up and balanced it well. But nothing prepared me for what I saw as I raised my head. Her hair was just as red as I remembered, cascading over her shoulders like fresh blood. Her eyes gleamed as they locked onto Ryder, and her lips curved into a dirty smile that made my skin crawl.

Jack looks at me. “You…you are the reason.” He walks toward me, but as he does, he shifts. “RUN!” Frank yells. No. I am done running. This is my pack. Frank is my Alpha. Jack is dead. Jack’s wolf lunges for my throat. He is nearly to me when something crashes into his side. Scarlet throws him off balance as she snarls. Jack’s teeth dig into her shoulder. Blood sprays everywhere. She keeps fighting as wolves come to help Jack. She took one of the wolves down, but another bit into her side. “Scarlet!” She falls. Her breath is labored as blood coats the ground. The wolves turn to me. Frank roars, trying to break free. They claw at him, but he keeps fighting to get to me.

There must be a deer wandering around close again to the cabin as the branches snapping sounds like it is right outside my front door. Suddenly the noises became louder, and before I knew what was happening, I heard a loud pop noise, and I saw something coming through my cabin door, coming in my direction. I soon released what it was, but before I could do anything, Scarlett appeared in front of me in a flash, pushing me to the ground. “Stay down,” she said. I look up and see Scarlett armed with a gun. What the fuck? Where did that come from? She was handling it like she knew what she was doing with it.
