The next day I woke up to six more messages and the day after that there were twelve. The messages came at random times. Morning, afternoon, midnight and dawn… always from different numbers, anonymous. At first they were simple accusations like gold digger, liar, homeworker and monster but they changed and that was how the fear started. Three days later I was reviewing documents in my office as my phone buzzed again. I almost ignored it then I looked at it and immediately went still. Did she scream when you pushed her? My blood got cold and I stared at the screen finding it difficult to breathe or blink.

Attached to the message was a link and multiple scared emoji faces. I frowned, trying to figure out what Chelsea could’ve possibly sent that would warrant that many emojis. Even with Darick’s sharp eyes on me, I couldn’t resist opening the message and reading the article. As soon as I saw the headline, my heart plummeted to my feet and it felt like I could no longer breathe. ‘Just When You Thought You Were Safe, Vampires Are Taking Over New York!’

Victor's eyes locked onto mine. "A message," he stammered. His voice trembled. Fear crept into his voice. Like a thief in the night. From an unknown number. The screen displayed two ominous words: "You're next." Victor's face drained of color. Reina gasped. Her hand flew to her mouth. As if stifling a scream. "Who sent this?" I growled. My voice was low. Menacing. Victor shook his head. Frantically. "I don't know," he pleaded.

There was food everywhere, balloons I distinctly remembered telling her not to buy, and a giant cake sitting untouched on the counter because apparently turning nineteen was a national event. I stayed near the kitchen mostly. Safe distance. I was avoiding him. This morning's events still playing over in my head. He was different. Very different and I got scared. I didn't know what to do or who to talk to. Who am I kidding, who am I going to tell that I am scared of my best friend's nineteen year old son who I have been having sex with since last year. A woman who should know better. And yet all I could think about was being on my knees for a nineteen year old a few hours ago.

The air felt different, colder, as if the very room was holding its breath. My heart pounded as I cautiously approached the bed, where a small, folded piece of paper lay on the pillow. Dread coiled in my stomach as I picked it up, unfolding it with trembling hands. The message was short, but the meaning was clear: You didn’t listen. Now, someone else will pay. I barely had time to process the words before a blood-curdling scream echoed through the packhouse, followed by the sound of something crashing to the ground. I was out the door in an instant, racing down the hallway toward the source of the commotion.

My phone buzzed like it was about to burst out in fumes with nearly twenty messages right at the moment I switched it on. Who on earth was that? What on earth did they want? I spread on my bed after getting rid of my shoes and stared at the screen to see who was so restless to send twenty text messages to me in just a few hours. Scrolling down, I saw Scar's voice messages, with many emojis, asking me how I was, get well soon, sorry, etc. It was common for us. I am used to getting stupid texts. But as I scroll my finger down further, I found a weird text message, which actually started with the word, Bitch...;

But in his eyes… there was doubt. Just a flicker. Back in the shadows, I smiled. One crack. That’s all I needed. The next day, I sent another message. This time, to Dickson. Sender: “Ask Daisy what happened in Sector 14.” Just one line. No name. No warning. That night… Dickson sat beside Daisy, silent. She noticed. “What is it?” “Sector 14,” he said. Daisy froze. “What about it?” “Someone sent me a message.”

Underneath a paper "see what you have done now. I hope you like what you see." Just then her phone buzzed. The buzzing startled her from the horror in front of her. She slowly takes out her hands shaking. As she opened it a message popped on the screen " now why don't you go and say goodbye to all your brothers and sisters." " Ahh!" She screams throwing the phone away. She runs to the home telephone and Dails 911. She could stop crying , shaking she was covered in blood of her parents. The smell of blood everywhere was making her nauseated. The cops came as quickly as possible. She explained everything , the call , the weird messages even the one from her phone.

Each volume of Strange short stories will have 3 medium-sized stories and about 10 short stories. To make it easier to understand and more transparent, this chapter will be like a summary for this and the following volumes.
