I turned to face the menacing faces of Lucas' men, their eyes filled with a twisted sense of power. "Gotcha," one of them sneered, tightening his hold on my arm. I struggled, but their grip was unyielding. They dragged me through the wreckage, towards the heart of darkness itself, Alpha Lucas. As we approached Lucas, his piercing gaze met mine. The Alpha exuded an aura of dominance, his presence commanding and intimidating. I could see the bloodlust in his eyes, the hunger for power that had driven him to destroy my village. "Welcome, little lamb," Lucas growled, his voice sending shivers down my spine.

"I'm not sure. The books all ended with the fact that Sophane separated the Syren realm from the rest of Malsophor. Nothing more, nothing less." I leaned into the couch I was sat on and thought over the information I was given. I'm part of a lost civilization of Syrens, the mind-reading, water inhabiting beings. The one who is said to bring about chaos within the realms of Malsophor as well as wipe out the population. And the whole of Malsophor is out to get me. Rightfully so. When I got out of bed the morning Ava woke me up so rudely, I never imagined being swept into such a huge apocalyptic mess. I would've turned the other direction and kept sleeping.

"They aren't using traditional shells. they're broadcasting a high-frequency dissonance designed to shatter the Sombra-marrow. If they hit the resonance frequency of the Coral-Spire, the roots will liquify. The building will collapse into the sea."

Caspian shouted. Suddenly, the north wall disintegrated. Four men in matte-black tactical gear descended on fast-ropes. These weren't regular soldiers; they were the Reapers, the Old Guard’s personal cleanup crew. They didn't carry rifles; they carried high-output sonic cannons designed to disrupt neural tissue. Whump. The first sonic blast hit the room. The frequency was so high it turned Caspian’s vision into a blur of grey static. He collapsed to his knees, his ears bleeding.

“Impressive little bro. but it’ll take more than that to stop me.” Sardonyx conjured a cavern of spikes on the ceiling to maim Scott. But here brother zoomed toward the tribrid , dodging each spike that came his way “Intenerate per arcus fulgur.” Sardonyx chanted firing multirole colored streams of lighting at Scott. But Scott maneuvered each bolt before plunging his body to slash at Sardonyx. Sardonyx leaned away from Scott, kicking him in his stomach before slamming her fist down. Scott caught his hearings and dropped kicked his sister. For the stones until he dodged his sister who released another sonic scream.

As the applause died down, I took a deep breath and leaned over to him. “Let’s go mingle. It’s part of the job, right?” Favian raised an eyebrow but nodded. “Very well.” We descended from the stage, arm in arm again, and began moving through the crowd. Alphas and Lunas from various packs approached us, offering congratulations. Some looked genuinely pleased, while others seemed curious or even wary. It was all part of the game. I smiled, exchanged pleasantries, and shook hands, trying to keep my nerves in check.

For if he hadn’t, he wouldn’t have known about Eva and Marie’s Sonic Clap. Sonic Clap was a sound based martial art that was difficult to study. Among the Undead, only a few with the exception of Eva and Marie had been able to study this skill and only three – two of them being the female assassins trying to kill Aiden – had been able to completely master it. Sonic Clap wasn’t as destructive as other martial arts, but it was very dangerous. Armed with the ability to destroy the eardrums of any who heard it and disorient as well as temporarily destroy the sense of balance of a person, Sonic Clap was not to be underestimated. Its greatest flaw however was that it was only best used as a sneak

Jasper's expression darkened. "We found this water source, and that means this belongs to our base camp! You're not allowed to steal it from us!" he shouted, seeing right through Leo's intentions. His face turned extremely grim. Leo just looked at him contemptuously. "What are you saying, Mr. Curran? Wasn't Dr. Grayson the one who found the water source? Are you trying to steal the credit from her?" Leo then wiped the muzzle of the gun before suddenly raising it and pointing it at Jasper's head without warning.

My pulse ticked faster. “An old one,” Cassius nodded slowly. “Passed down from our fathers to us and from their fathers to them. From sire to son across all generations. Two original beings, born of the first moon's fire. One an alpha, the other a rogue. They were to forge a new era of moonfall.” I stared at them incredulously. “You never thought to mention this?” “It was all eons ago,” Dimitri defended. “We believed the originals were lost to time, their lines extinguished. It was all bedtime stories to us. Originals were meant to have died out centuries ago.”
