Seeing Around Corners Novels & Stories

Someone is standing at the corner of the building, half-hidden by shadow. Watching. Listening. And as soon as our eyes meet— they run.

I can see a chair in the center of the room and a mirror on one side. I have seen too many movies before my life took a tragic turn, and I know that through that mirror, there are people watching me. But that is not what I am most concerned about right now. I can see something like a dark shadow in the corner of the wall. This dark shadow seems not to be at the other corners of the walls. How is it that it is just around the corner? This confuses me immediately, and I just wonder what it is. Like an animal in a new environment trying to understand it, I twist my neck again and again, moving closer to the corner just so I can see the shadow more clearly.

When I was sure they had continued, I carefully snuck my head around the corner and took a sneaky glance. Perfect. They were heading straight for the centre, which would be around the next corner. Rem would head back out of the maze from there. The exit was easy enough to find, as you just had to make five right turns and two left. The other directions just led you into a circle, so it was hard to get lost unless you didn’t notice you had kept going around and around.
