“What?” He smirked, knowing he got my attention. “She talked about you. She showed me that one pic you had sent her, of you wearing a yellow top and black shorts. You looked like sunshine. My sunshine.” I couldn’t even reply. I could barely think. He continued. “I think it was love at first sight for me. I wanted you the second I saw you.” I wanted to curl up in a hole somewhere far and never leave that darkness. “That was 8 years ago.” I whispered.

His brow was furrowed in concentration like he was overly interested in whoever he is chatting with. For a moment I just stood there, caught in the quiet beauty of the scene. Then, as if sensing my presence, he lifted his eyes. Just then, I could see a smile on his face like someone he has been expecting to see…he smiled slightly…my heart nearly stopped. It was the first time I had ever seen him smile at me, a soft, and slight curve of his lips. For a breathless second I thought my heart might burst from pure joy. But before I could even fully register everything, the smile faded.

At first, his face is serious, but after he smiles at me. "Your hair is nice like this," is all he tells me, and my jaw drops to the floor in surprise.

A real and unexpected bumpy laugh that later dissolves into a heart melting smile. For the first time, the very first time, I see through her and what it looks like to behold a glimpse of the raw part of a person that they never let others see. “You should laugh more, you know.” I can't help holding back the words before they tumble out of my lips. Her smile fades a bit. “You too. The only times I've seen your smile is with Cupcake.”

And for the first time since I’ve known him — He looked afraid.

The sight melted her up from the inside out and she smiled back. Why did the sight look so good? She wondered, then realised it was the first time she had seen him smile.

“I’m not being sweet, Annie.” He sounded almost angry now, and she was caught by surprise again at this kind, gentle man actually showing anger. “I’m telling you what I think about you. What I’ve thought for a long time. Since the first time I saw you, actually.”

He gave me a genuine smile when he spoke. “Don’t worry that was my first kiss too.”

It's my first time to feel this way, and fuck! Accidentally, my eyes has its mind on their own and landed on her again while she's talking to her friends. My heart leaped in a sudden. I could not help but stare in awe. My heart beat fast when she laughed and smiled naturally. She looks really gorgeous, especially when she smiles. What a beautiful smile. This is probably the best smile that I've ever seen in my entire life. I hate her smile. The other side of my mind said. I didn't realise that the side of my lips turned up until she looked at me.
