Leo walked forward, picking up a single, glowing blue shard from the floor. "Mama?" he whispered. Suddenly, a screen on the wall—the only one still powered by a backup battery—flickered to life. It wasn't a news feed. It was a GPS coordinate. Location: Port of Marseille. Terminal 4. And beneath the coordinate, a single text line appeared: "The Shadow Empress is dead. Long live the House of Everett-Northwood. — M."

He looked between them. "Am I interrupting something?" Lucien stepped back immediately. "No." Alexander grinned. "Shame." Vivienne appeared behind him. "We've got twenty minutes." "The convoy's ready." Blackwater Cove lay nearly ninety minutes north of Los Angeles. The drive followed the Pacific coastline. As the convoy approached the estate, civilization gradually disappeared. Streetlights became scarce. Cell signals weakened. The ocean crashed violently against jagged cliffs below. Finally... The estate came into view. It was breathtaking.

Zero POV Shadow doesn’t answer right away. His jaw flexes, eyes darting toward me like he’s debating whether to speak. “Shadow,” I press, my patience thinking. He looks like he is reconsidering telling me whatever it is he was told “What. Did. They. Find?” He swallows. “The car.” The world seems to stop moving. For a heartbeat, even my pulse freezes. “Where?” “About four miles downstream,” he says quietly. “No sign of the two though.”

I soon heard something behind me, and when I turned around I wasn’t surprised to see Lucas following me. “You shouldn’t have walked off on your own.” Lucas said. “I know. But either those vampires were on a suicide mission or they had a base pretty damn close to this pack that they could retreat to.” I explained. “That’s what you’re looking for? A base?” He asked. “Yeah.” I said. So we went to the top of the hill and we looked around in all directions. “Over there.” Lucas said. Pointing out a building in the middle of nowhere. Like it was an abandoned cabin or something, but it was pretty large.

The darkness loomed around them like a cloak. Sekhmet carried an old-fashioned torch he pulled from a hole in the wall to light the way. It was a bit theatric and unnecessary, considering vampires and werewolves alike could see in the dark. But it set the mood for torture nicely; causing shadows to dance across the walls. A bleeding.

Coven House was dark and cold inside, with only red lights burning everywhere as if fires were lit in the middle of every room. The air was thick, hot, and stank of blood, clinging to everything like a mist. It wasn't something that could be wiped away by water – the scent remained even though someone bathed after. It was so strong one could almost taste it when they breathed. This coven was the stronghold of the Dark Shadow Coven, which, like the Gravefur Pack, was based on the East Coast.

I bought it from a vendor at a midsummer fair in our hometown of Tidepool Cove, not far from Crescent. Tidepool Cove is part small sea village, part gated community, all werewolf. Only humans who are with a werewolf can get in. On the outside, it seems like a ritzy resort that’s all full up to any passersby. On holidays, wolves from other villages come to visit. The Cove is a popular gathering place for the different shifter packs, the loosely related groups that form inside the larger werewolf community.

Cove leaned in, kissing Eli deeply, full of everything they had survived and everything still waiting for them. When he pulled back, his storm-gray eyes were fierce with love and determination. “Then let’s go hunt a ghost.” The convoy moved fast through the rainy night streets. Rain pounded against the armored SUV windows, turning the city lights into blurred streaks of gold and red. Fog rolled in thick from the river, wrapping the docks in a cold, ghostly haze. Eli sat in the back seat beside Cove, his hands trembling slightly as he set up the mobile hacking rig on a small fold-out table between them.

She was nervous but also excited. Will they like her? Will they welcome her with open arms? Only time will tell as they were moving toward the village that Caleb seemed to forget to her as their group consists of Caleb, Xavier, the one with brunette hair and grey eyes, Arthur who was black-headed and green eyes, and her to the secret village that was known as Shadow Pack.

The deep blue bioluminescence pumped through the veins in the ice, casting long, eerie shadows across the cavern. Directly beneath the heart, the circular pool of necrotic black sludge remained perfectly still. And standing guard around it, the four faceless Shadow Wraiths floated inches above the ground, their wicked obsidian scythes gleaming in the blue light. They hadn't looked up. They had no reason to. No one in the history of the Northern Shadows had ever been foolish enough to try and free-climb the True King’s engine room in a torn silk nightgown.
