Sienna adjusted the collar of her blouse as she stood in front of the small group of women seated in folding chairs. A banner hung behind her, the freshly printed letters reading: Lucia Foundation – Hope Beyond the Shadows. Natalia stood off to the side, clipboard in hand, giving her an encouraging nod. “You’ve got this,” Natalia whispered. Sienna smiled, then took a breath and stepped forward. “Thank you all for coming today. I know how hard it can be to walk into a room like this. I’ve been where you are. Caught in a world that told me silence was survival.”

The darkness loomed around them like a cloak. Sekhmet carried an old-fashioned torch he pulled from a hole in the wall to light the way. It was a bit theatric and unnecessary, considering vampires and werewolves alike could see in the dark. But it set the mood for torture nicely; causing shadows to dance across the walls. A bleeding.

"Evie, I found something that might explain what we saw in the hallway." She opened the book, flipping through yellowed pages filled with diagrams of shadow creatures, spell components, and dark enchantments. She stopped on a page titled "Umbra Servientes"—Shadow Servants. "This passage here," she whispered, tapping a paragraph, "says that shadows can be summoned and controlled by someone with enough power to bend them to their will. But they aren’t just for show. They’re used to gather information, observe without being seen... or attack.” I felt a shiver run down my spine. “So they were really targeting me.”

Its eyes were as red as blood and its presence gives a chilling and horrifying feel. “The two witch kids...have you heard about the prophecy?” The twins looked at each other being puzzled. “Oh, I see, I would be glad that I will be the one to tell your fate...” The evil of shadows made them confused. “...if one of you succeeds to become the ruler of the separate worlds, it will be the end of everything.” As Falla moved her pace to her brother trying to hide at her twin's back, Talon eventually vanished and was nowhere to be found. The evil of shadows moved closer in her direction. She feels heaviness and high tension as the evil comes closer and closer to her.

Laura screamed again so hard it sliced through reality itself. The shadows around her curled… writhed. Gathered. Her voice thundered: “Shadows I call on you! Listen to your mothers call!” The sky split open. A spiraling portal erupted in the center of the field. Black, swirling and pulsing with grief. The shadow people emerged. Not walking. Pouring. Born from rage. Forged from sorrow. Each one shaped like a nightmare with no face nor body. They charged onto the battlefield, unseen to the eye, but felt in the bones. Scorpions were diced like meat, dissolving into smoke with each shadow strike.

The city of Aethelgard never truly slept, but at 3:00 AM, its pulse slowed to a low, rhythmic hum. For Clara, this was the hour of the "Shadow People." She lived alone in a cramped, third-floor walk-up—a space that always smelled of old cedar and damp plaster.
