I plead, and she looks into my eyes, searching for any hesitation, but when she doesn’t, she drops my hands and moves away. “Fine, I’ll tell you.” My excitement is swiftly wiped away by her next words. “The shadow god is an abomination. He was never supposed to be born. He’s the product of an unholy ritual, an anomaly.”

I threw myself in its path. The shadow struck me across the shoulders. It didn’t cut. It unmade. A cold so profound it felt like the end of time seared through me, not into my body, but into the silvery threads of my Weaver power. I felt a part of my magic—the part closest to Morvana’s legacy, the cold, silver shadow—shatter and go dark, permanently severed. I screamed, the pain beyond physical, a spiritual amputation. But the force of the blow propelled us both through the window opening, out into the empty, stormy air.

I knew the tragedy that was about to occur. The moment her foot lifted, The Shadows pounced, their dark tendrils snapping around her small figure like a vice. They writhed and seethed around her, their malevolent presence suffocating. I felt an explosive pain in my chest, as if my heart was being ripped from my ribcage. My hands flew to my sternum, clawing desperately at my chest as if that needless action would calm the immense agony that flowed through me.

The shadows did as they were told. “Ackkk!” Amanda cried out, voice straining with the amount of pain that shot through her body. The shadows changed the surface color of her skin into inky black, frozen, without giving her a chance to move. “Rex...cord, I’m goi...ng to kill yo...u! I swear I- ahhh!!!” His shadows seeped into her skin pores, tightening her nerves and delivering pain there. As a consequence, Amanda shouted again in a complete sound of pain.

Cassius’s roar was a physical force, a shockwave that seemed to momentarily halt my violent journey. Gritting my teeth against the fire in my shoulder, I twisted, forcing a torrent of mana into my palm. I lifted my head just enough to see it: a knot of congealed night, a writhing mass of animated shadow with tendrils like whips of solid darkness. A Shadowveil. It was pulling me into its formless body. I aimed and unleashed a lance of amethyst light. The blast struck true, and the creature didn't just die; it unraveled, dissolving into a silent puff of black smoke.

“The truth you deny.” Her mother’s words echoed in her mind: *“Remember who you are.”* Jessica focused, not on destroying the shadow but on understanding it. She let her spark flow, not as a weapon but as a bridge, reaching for the pain within the shadow. It faltered, its form flickering, and she saw it—a fragment of her grief, her anger, her fear of failure. “I see you,” she whispered, and the shadow screamed, dissolving into light. Around her, her companions overcame their own echoes, their resolve bolstered by her victory.

With a scream of anguish, Liora plunged her blade through his chest. The golden light flared, swallowing the shadows. “I’m sorry,” she sobbed, holding him close. Caelum smiled faintly as his body crumbled into motes of silver and black. “Thank you… little star.” The Shadow’s Whisper As his essence scattered, a faint, cold voice slithered into her mind: “Do you think this is over?
