Abey looked down at her Grandfather. The Chief wandered close by. “This is a bad omen, you must leave. You are plagued by Shadows, scat, scat.” he hissed at her.

It’s against everything fate has tried to impose upon us. Dorian notices. The smile vanishes from his face, replaced by a flicker of surprise. For a second, uncertainty clouds his gaze—and that’s all I need to believe that maybe, just maybe, we have a chance. “You don’t know who you’re messing with,” Shadow whispers, his voice deeper, darker, like a lament, as if everything he’s endured has prepared him for this moment. (gesturing to the room) “—this is war. And in war, there are no second chances.” Before Sienna could respond, the sound of shattering glass filled the room. Both of them turned toward the window just as a shadow moved in the darkness.
