The moon hung low over the dense forest encircling Mooncrest, its silvery light struggling to pierce the thick canopy of ancient trees. In a secluded clearing, the members of the Order of Spies gathered, their breaths misting in the chill night air. Iconic. Bukky ducked behind a forklift and returned fire, barking curses in Spanish as he clipped two more. “Cover right!” The Shadow King yelled, diving low. The fight was brutal, quick, but the Shadows were built for this. Shadows don’t blink. They don’t panic. And then, like thunder rolling in, their secret roared to life. Antonioni signaled. A whistling whine pierced the air thickly. From behind a metal crate, one of his boys hoisted it, and two controlled it from their ends.

“The Veil has been torn, Shadowborn. You cannot undo what she has done.” He spun around, scanning the treeline. The light had faded, replaced by a low, unnatural mist creeping through the roots and stones. “Show yourself,” he growled. Power rippled beneath his skin, his wolf pushing forward, eager for a fight. The voice chuckled dark, amused. “You demand much from a world already breaking.” A figure stepped from the mist. Tall. Cloaked in silver and smoke. Its face was hidden beneath a hood, but its eyes glowed faint white — like moons reflected in still water.

I looked down, half expecting to see my skin sliced in half, but I was thankfully quick, and it was just my shirt that got shredded. I turned, my hands already shifted into claws, but there was nothing there. Only shifting shadows. “What the hell was that?” “A creature that walks in the shadows…I think that might be a Shadow Wraith.” Xercer answered me. “Well, how do I defeat it?” I was looking around, my claws ready to slice, but I couldn't see anything, just shadows. Another attack came, this time from behind me. I barely dodged in time, but the creature’s claws still raked across my upper arm, leaving behind three deep gashes.

Each whisp moves silently through the crowd and touches the forehead of each wolf, making their aura glow for a brief second as their wolf comes forward. I can see the confusion on their faces as they realise they are no longer under control and see the light return to their eyes. I trust in my team as I see a few more wolves drop from bullets within the crowd, but I can see more and more starting to wake up. That's when I hear the screech and look up. The shadows were pissed. I could see the sky darken even more, as if trying to keep the moonlight away from the land they have claimed.
