“We need the cover of darkness to move without leaving a trail. Scouts are sweeping the area. We wait until they pass.” I nodded and swallowed the fear down. “Okay.” Sebastian pulled me into his arms and wrapped me tight against his chest. I buried my face in his shirt and breathed him in cedar smoke and steady heartbeat. “We’ll make it,” he murmured against my hair. “I promise.” I wanted to believe him. The shaman arrived an hour later carrying a small leather satchel. She set it on the table, opened it and pulled out a dark bundle of clothes. Black long-sleeved shirt black pants soft boots. The positioning of the circles mimicked an eclipse. It was a beautiful blanket. And the symbol in the center was familiar. I knew I had seen it before, but I couldn’t remember where or when. But it was definitely a symbol I’d seen somewhere.
