It was all gone, destroyed in an instant by the man who had promised to protect her. As Elara lay there, broken and alone, she felt a darkness settle over her heart, a darkness that threatened to consume her entirely. She had once believed in love, in happiness, in the possibility of a better life. But now, all of that was gone, replaced by a cold, empty void that left her feeling hollow inside.

After everything she had done for him. Without warning, Nova’s fist tightened around the crystal glass in her hand, the delicate curves of the cup biting into her palm. Her mind screamed for control, but the anger, the betrayal, it was too much. She stood up abruptly, knocking her chair back with a loud screech that echoed through the hall. The glass in her hand shattered with a sharp, resounding crack. The jagged shards of crystal flew outward, some grazing her skin, but Nova didn’t care. Her breaths came out in sharp, angry gasps. Blood dripped from her hand, but it was nothing compared to the searing fury that consumed her.

Elsa I didn’t talk to Miles or any of his friends, not that they acknowledged me anyway. I rushed out of the club, my heart still racing. I stopped the first cab I saw, climbed in, and slammed the door behind me. Even as the car pulled away, I could still feel him. His hands on my body, his fingers inside me. I was shaking, not from cold, but from the adrenaline. I just wanted to go home and scrub every part of myself. Not that the orgasm was bad. It was... no words could come to mind, non would ever be enough.

When I heard them leave the dungeon, and the sound of silence was all that filled the air, I curled into a ball and welcomed the darkness that had become my friend. The cop replied with a hint of mockery in his voice. The tubes in my arm trembled with the ferocity of my shaking. Anger and grief fought within me, both as sharp as the other. My voice lost. Sunlight poured through the windows so that the library was well illuminated, combined with the flickering light of the fire crackling in the hearth. He paused on the bottom step, closed his eyes and shook his head, and when he looked again, the hearth was empty and cold. He took two tentative steps forward, calling Phantom’s name, when the cat suddenly leapt on top of the nearest bookcase. It hissed again, its entire body shook as if in the grips of a seizure and it toppled off the bookcase, landing on its back, belying the old myth. With a yowl, it took off toward the fireplace.

I shivered and burned violently. I had been wrong before, even broken things could still shatter…
