A branch in its endless, gnarled roots. And then, the darkness fractured. Light. It was a flicker, a sudden flash of brightness that felt like fire on his skin. Ben’s eyes snapped open, and he gasped, pulling in air that tasted like ash. His body jerked with the instinct to flee, but there was nowhere to run. He was still on the cold ground, but the forest was no longer just an empty abyss. It was a labyrinth, a twisted landscape of trees with faces carved into their trunks, eyes staring out at him, watching, waiting.

Suddenly, I lost strength in my leg and fell to the ground with a thud. He burned Sasha alive without any hesitation. I closed my eyes and a wave of nausea engulfed me. I feel my blood turn to ice. Fear holds me tight. The Devil's attention then focused on me. His icy eyes looked at me. My heart rate involuntarily accelerates as he makes his way towards me. I'm frozen in fear. She found it funny to tell me horror stories before bed. I remembered once returning the favor. I told her about Terry the ghost, a boy who’d died in an accident on the street across from our house. Terry’s ghost wandered our neighbor’s house where his family had once lived. Mom hadn’t slept alone for weeks after that, and she never told me another horror story. My mom was like me in some ways—she was terrified of the paranormal, or anything religious. That’s why her engagement to Bill had been such a shock. But even Mom had gotten braver, so why couldn’t I?

~Three Days Later~ ~Sunny’s Point of View~ “Mommy, can I ask you something,” I said. “Of course honey, what is it,” she said, brushing my hair. I loved that, it was so relaxing and it almost put me to sleep. “Who is the scary man that is around sometimes, why does he always stare at me,” I asked. “Oh … well sweetie he’s a vampire and he lives here,” she said. “He LIVES here?! Why does he live here, shouldn’t he be with others like him, won’t he hurt us,” I asked, horrified.

Martha turns around and gets a bowl of rice and served it on the table. "Mommy it's true, but Nanny just didn't see it. He was a short old man with a long beard and scary eyes and nails like a monster, I felt like he was going to eat me! Huhuhuhu....." Phoebe covers her face with a white throw pillow from their couch and cries endlessly. She cries with fear, she has never encountered such a creepy creature before.
