THE FINAL CHAPTER The morning dawned soft and still, bathed in the palest golden light I had ever seen. There was no wind. No noise. No hurry. Only a profound, gentle silence that seemed to wrap itself around the house and the hills beyond, as if the whole world had paused to hold its breath.

"Can you stop? You're making my head spin!" Celestine, who had been pacing back and forth, fell silent and looked at Lilyana with annoyance. "Lily, come on! You're telling me to stop thinking? While you just relax," Celestine grumbled. "You're so cruel. Don't you respect my heartbreak? I just got cheated on, Cele! And turn off that annoying phone of yours, it keeps ringing!" Celestine snorted. She then slammed the tab in her hand onto the bed Lilyana was sitting on.

The drive over to the apartment was filled with an uncomfortable silence. Unasked questions hung in the air like a thick fog. Beads of sweat prickled on the back of the drivers neck as he too was smothered by the tension in the car. The seconds felt like minutes as the road seemed to stretch longer and longer before her eyes. Letting her eyes close, Thea suppressed a sigh as she leant her head against the window, she ignored the drumming of her head against the window as they drove over the bumpy terrain. Bellamy’s words playing on repeat in her head, ‘like our souls recognise each other’.

We had not made any sounds while entering the room. How did he know we were there? “Well, come on out where I can see you,” the vampire said. "Good evening. Is Ms. Grace here? This letter is from the city hall—please sign for it." Philip froze. "City hall? Why would they be contacting Grace?" He took the envelope and opened it. A second later, he was stunned by what he read. Inside was a stamped and approved Mate Bond Termination Agreement. "Grace wants to sever our bond? That's impossible, I can still feel it. I—" he whispered. He closed his eyes and tried to reach for the mate bond inside him. There was nothing. It was gone. Somewhere, somehow—Grace had already cut the bond.

He was kneeling. Scarred hands behind his back. Shirt ripped open. Eyes locked on mine as if tethered. “You’re quiet tonight,” I murmured, swirling the last of my red wine in its crystal cage. My heels clicked slowly over the marble floor, the black slit of my gown whispering against my thighs with each step. Silas didn’t answer, not with words. Just a clench of his jaw. Just the unmistakable way his eyes dropped to my hands as I reached into my thigh holster and slowly drew out the golden blade.

Carla said hurriedly before he could finish, though she knew what was coming. Hera Diamonds was the only company left that had not terminated their contract with her since her scandal began and that was because she knew and had helped the CEO in the past. The air here was so thin it couldn't carry sound. I looked at my hands. They were translucent, flickering like a dying candle. I could see the golden marks on my arms, but they weren't glowing emerald or white; they were a dull, pulsing violet—the color of a bruised galaxy. "They are not here, Darlene," a woman’s voice spoke, vibrating directly inside my skull. "In the Silence, there is no room for 'Mates' or 'Heirs.' There is only the Source and the Mirror."
