##Chapter 044 ##The Weight of Blood The Hollow Den was silent after the howls faded into the distance. Too silent. The kind of silence that pressed against my skull until my own heartbeat sounded like a war drum. I hadn’t slept. Not truly. Every time I closed my eyes, the darkness coiled around me like a living thing, dredging up half-formed dreams that left my skin damp and my nerves stretched taut.

I stepped back as the door turned red. Moving slowly through the hall, step, step, step, step. The ticking started once more. I needed to find my escape. I ran through a door to the right to find myself falling into a field of grass. Whispers of voices being carried with the wind. So many voices all at once, none were discernible. Shadows began appearing along the horizon, and the whispers increased.

Rosenthal to me? Right then, the door behind me squeaked open, causing my heart to skip a beat. My arms shot up, pointing the gun in the direction of the door. I peered in to find the bedroom empty. Bracing myself, I entered slowly with dread pumping through my veins. Her bedroom was home to an endless collection of books, and a double-wide bookcase, covering the majority of the wall, held an extensive variety of the occult genre. Interesting... Mrs. Una Rosenthal was a woman with secrets. Dark ones.

Chapter 1: The Weight of Silence The cold wind whispered through the twisted pines of the Silken North, carrying the scent of salt and ancient secrets. Lady Seraphine D’Argent stood at the edge of the cliff, her slender frame silhouetted against the bruised sky. The blood moon was hours from rising, but already its faint red glow seemed to tint the horizon, bleeding into the clouds like a warning.

Lillie Damon stared out the window of her cabin. The lightning in the midnight sky illuminated the forest on Slaughter Hill. Wind hissed through the forests. When it comes down to it, we are going to be the only things standing in the way of the vampires and the rest of civilization. So, we need to be ready for everything. To survive and protect the people that we love. As soon as training was over I headed upstairs of the packhouse to get ready for school. But I saw something strange in the upstairs sitting area, so I walked over towards the back of the couch and I saw my stepmother Jillian passed out with a martini glass in her hand.

Grey dawn peeked at the horizon, heralding the coming of a new day. From atop the skies, they could see all of Silent Hill, a long and windy mountain range resembling the snaking trunk of a dragon that sprawled over the hills. All of Silent Hill spread across the vista, spanning from north to south with one end a dense and ancient jungle while the other, a deep bottomless abyss. Cries and roars of wild beasts could be heard over the thick boughs of the jungle while the bottomless ravines at the far end of the mountain range were as silent as a crypt. The unnerving contrast was almost uncanny.
