She put her hand on her stomach and thought about Anna saying the baby better look like you and felt the specific complicated grief of losing someone in the middle of an unfinished conversation. That was the thing about this grief. It wasn't clean. It wasn't the grief of a relationship that had been whole and complete and could be mourned as a whole thing. It was the grief of something that had been in the middle of becoming what it was supposed to be — two sisters who had spent years at a distance, emotional and geographical, and had started, in the last weeks, to find their way back to each other. Really back. Not the performed closeness of family obligation but the actual thing.

I take a deep breath and try again. “My sister got kicked out of my parent’s house, she’s pregnant and she needs a place to stay. So she moved in with me. Every time she’s around I get a little crazy, I’m stressed out of my mind. And for that reason I am not in the right mind to spend time with anyone.” I say and he looks at me thoughtful.

I gave him a small smile of thanks and followed Lari out, and we headed down the street to our parent’s home. Everyone we passed gave Lari a small bow of respect, and she was so used to it by now she just kept on chatting about how excited Mom and Dad were going to be. I couldn’t help but smile as my sister is the Luna of one of the two biggest packs in North America. And now I am the Gamma female of the pack. I will need to ask about my duties as such. I heard one of them is I am Gamma to the Luna, which happens to be my sister. I have no problem with that job.

You’re truly shameless!” Leon’s words instantly caused everyone to look at me differently. “I thought Claire came back to care for her sister. "I won't be the one to come between you two, I don't want to be hated by my sister and especially have that unborn child hate me for breaking its parents up." “Good, then. So, when it's my birthday, I'll tell her to make a cake and cook for you two." Jake glared. “She's not your chef.” “Is she? She used to cook for me a lot before she knew you. Making coffee, making lunch, giving food from morning, afternoon, evening, night, sometimes even taking food to the office.
