“Kayah!” Six screamed at me while shaking my body back and forth on the couch. “Ayah, it’s just a dream. Wake up!” When my eyes landed on Six’s hard face and I instantly started screaming again but this time it was louder. The fear and distress was clear in my actions once I started scratching and kicking at him, trying my hardest to get him away from me. He’s trying to kill me. He’s trying to kill me. The thought just kept repeating itself over and over again in my head until I believed that he really was.

That person turned on the light and came over to comfort me. "Audrey, I was trying to let you sleep well. I'm sorry for scaring you." The voice sounded like a nightmare. I hesitantly pulled the covers. I trembled. "Mr. Chaney..." Jeffrey pulled down the covers. He felt a bit hurt, "Audrey, call me Jeffrey just like before, OK?" I shook my head wishing that he would stay away from me. I couldn't breathe. "I don't dare anymore. I don't dare to pester you anymore."

I woke, hours later, to Kitty screaming and crying in her sleep. "It's okay. I'm here. It's me, Craig. You're safe." I said, pulling her close so she can see my face. She woke up and looked at me in the dark. "Craig?" she asked as my door crashed open to reveal Dad and Clay standing there with Mom behind them. "Everything is fine. She just had a nightmare." I told them. Dad and Mom looked relieved but Clay looked pissed. "I'm so sorry." Kitty said through her tears.

The nightmare was worse than usual. It wasn't just fragments this time; it was a full, suffocating reel. The dusty carpet smell, the crushing weight, the paralyzing fear—it was so vivid he woke up choking on a scream, his heart hammering against his ribs like a trapped bird.
