If you cannot eat the nut... you eat the soil around it." The Skeleton walked to the ventilation shaft. He sniffed the air drifting down from D.C. "The boy is safe. But his garden..." The Skeleton smiled. His teeth were needles. "The garden is soft." He reached into his rags and pulled out a handful of dust. It wasn't gray dust. It was red.

I felt Hannah's hold of me loosen and I fell, the sting of the water was burning through the flesh of my wounds. I saw Hannah fell near me she was writhing in pain her body moving underworldly, bones snapping and she stopped and sat down her back turned away from me. I was about to get up and ran but her neck was snapping, bones cracking as she turned her head one hundred and eighty degrees, she was now staring at me. I can feel the tears streaming down my eyes my pants wet, I was so scared, never have I imagined that this will be my death. I know in my heart this is the end, my end. I instantly regret blurting those words as Sinclair laughs at me, looking down at his body, and my eyes follow that movement. Lena's POV For a long time, I had been thinking I was weak-willed, with no drive to survive or live on to the next sunrise, but my two instances with death convinced me otherwise. I thought after the masked rogue left me for death, I would slowly wheeze myself to the light, maybe watch myself float up, or feel my body rot. I managed to stand on my feet, my bones crackling and my legs shaking. My guts felt like they were being crushed by my body mass, and my legs, specifically my thighs, felt like they had been drilled through with a razor-sharp rock.
