I shook my clothes with effort, but softly; trying to get whatever was crawling inside my clothes to come off without raising an alarm. And then it came off. But it landed on my arm. And when I saw the brown hairs standing on end; with four eyes looking up at me, eight legs spread out on my hand, and its body that was the size of mother's comb. I screamed again. Foolishly. But I felt only half guilty. Because it was a Spider. It was a Tarantula. I screamed louder. And shoved it away, sending it flying into the darkness, then shot my hands to my mouth again. Now cursing myself. For screaming. Twice.

"What are you doing?" The deep voice cut through the silence, nearly stopping my heart. I turned around so quickly that my foot slid out from under me and I fell back into a bush that was behind me. I felt a spider web fall into my face and I began to spit and sputter as I swatted it out of my face. Arachnophobic didn't even begin to explain how I felt about spiders.

The queen spider had pulled Helia closer until she was but a leg's length from it; just out of its reach. Its glossy black fangs, which were as long as Helia's forearm, dripped with the promise of venom. Helia knew she wouldn't be able to cut the webbing in time so she readied herself to stab the beast when it gave one last tug. Quite abruptly the spider seemed to freeze. And then, Kendrick's voice was directly over her, "Ugh. I hate these things almost as much as I hate slayers."

I walked over to his shirt, saw the tiny spider, and stomped my feet on it. “Oow is someone afraid of baby spiders?” I teased, pouting my lips as if I was talking to a little boy. “We are in the middle of nowhere! It could be poisonous.” He defended himself as he walked towards me, grabbed the bottle, and took three large gulps. He reached for his belt, unbuckling it and started to take his slacks off.

"Why does it always have to be spiders." Kai hated spiders. Whenever Milo found one he would super charge it with his powers, making it ten times the size. This prank never ended well, and usually ended up with some poor sucker trapped in a web somewhere in the outskirts of the waste lands. Miaka sighed. "Great!" "Yeah, my male consorts," the spider clarified, sensing what was going on in the duo's heads. "Uhm, can you not eat us?" Myles entreated, "We'll exchange for our lives with all our treasure. And we'll fulfill any task you'd like us to do."

So bright that it should illuminate the darkness inside the tunnel but somehow it doesn't, I increase my pace. Sweat drips down my neck, my breathing grows heavier and the serpent continues speaking temptation but I keep moving and eventually the voice fades. Relief floods through me and only for it to disappear immediately because standing near the exit are the largest Kongku spiders imaginable. My stomach drops. Oh no.
