I could feel my cheeks flushing with embarrassment, but I pushed that feeling aside and focused on my task. After a few breaths, I disengaged, gasping for air, and positioned myself to go again. This time, I added a touch of dark magic to the air that I breathed into Rowland's lungs. I could feel the magic flowing from me into him, filling him with the energy he needed to awaken. As I continued my resuscitation efforts, I could see Rowland's body starting to respond. His chest started to rise and fall as he breathed in the air I was giving him, and I could see the color returning to his face.

I took one last look at the figure struggling in the dirt and let out a soft sigh, closing the final chapter on a long-dead story. "Let's go." I took Ethan's hand, and without looking back, I walked toward the bright future that belonged to us.

When I next woke up, my eyes had been covered. I could not see even the smallest pinprick of light. My hands and legs were bound. Pain radiated from my back. The rope that bound me was lifted. Then, my feet were submerged in icy water. The water rose, slowly enveloping my chest and head… I could not breathe. I could not even scream for help. Eventually, I was raised up again as I thrashed violently. I gulped in huge lungfuls of air and coughed so hard until I could not make any more noise. The person at the edge of the pool finally spoke up.

Familiar. And something inside me shook. “But I feel you pulling me,” I admitted in a whisper. “Like gravity. Like fate. Like something I am supposed to choose again.” He looked like a man drowning in a breath of air. “Then stay with me,” he whispered. “Let me pull you back. I immediately turned right back and pulled her into a hug. Flash Back ends I sigh as I watched the sun creeps in through the window. Time to take back what's rightfully mine.
