As they watched, the sparrow, which had been lying still, gave a weak shudder. Then, it slowly, carefully, straightened its bent wing. It let out a small, questioning chirp, hopped once in Sera’s hand, and then fluttered unsteadily to a low-hanging branch of the Heartwood. It sat there for a moment, preening its feathers, before flying off into the twilight.
Sera beamed, her face glowing with pride and wonder. “I fixed the song!”
