Chapter Twelve Elena’s POV The lights dimmed. The bass from the DJ’s booth pounded harder, like a heartbeat echoing through the underground club. Spider’s voice cut through the haze of smoke and perfume. “Tonight,” he shouted into the mic, his grin wide and sharp, “a new angel graces our stage. Fresh, pure, untouched. Give it up for… Angel!” My blood froze. Spider’s hand shoved me lightly between the shoulder blades, pushing me toward the golden cage. “That’s you, mouse,” he whispered near my ear, his breath hot and dangerous. “Angel. That’s your name now. With that golden hair and those doe eyes, you look like one.”

"The pull. The connection." "No," I whispered, still not looking at him. "I didn't feel anything." I risked a glance up, instantly regretting it when our eyes met. That pull intensified, making my breath catch. His gaze softened, and I could see the confusion there. "The Moon Goddess doesn't make mistakes with mate bonds," he said quietly. "Lucas was supposed to be my mate," I whispered, more to convince myself than him. The king moved closer, sitting beside me on the bed. I tensed but didn't move away.

A massive, mutated spider the size of a dinner plate had dropped from the ceiling onto Valen’s shoulder. I couldn't swing. I was too far away. "No!" I yelled. Valen didn't scream. He looked at the spider. The spider raised its fangs, dripping with black venom. Valen’s eyes flared gold. He didn't pull. He pushed. He opened his mouth and bit the air in front of him. CRUNCH. A sound like a thunderclap inside a jar. The spider didn't explode. It imploded. It crumpled inward, as if a giant invisible hand had crushed it into a singularity. Then, a stream of blue light shot from the crushed carcass into Valen’s mouth.

She asked as she sat on the couch. Lucia smiled "Um…yeah" she said as she scratched her hair "Well, I'm beginning to have my doubts about this Spider guy. He wanted to have sex with me on my first official visit" Jessica said "Oh, seriously?"she asked "Yeah, I still have a feeling that he might be lying to me. If he was the guy he said he was, I don't think he would have thought of having sex with me right away. The guy I encountered that night doesn't seem to be someone interested in sex and all that stuff" she said and Lucia kept silent.

Just like always, she slid into bed beside me. "Are you still mad at me?" I turned my back to her, saying nothing. She wrapped an arm around my waist and whispered by my ear softly, "Baby, I'm sorry. I was wrong. Josh got into a car accident. He called me, and I panicked and forgot." When I still didn't speak, she turned me forcefully, making me face her. Under the moonlight, I saw the red spider lily tattoo on her shoulder. I instantly thought of Joshua's Instagram post, and a wave of nausea washed over me.

I felt her emotions—fear, determination, and an unyielding sense of duty. The dream shifted again, and I found myself in a serene forest glade. The woman was there, now much older, kneeling beside a young girl with golden hair. She placed a pendant around the girl's neck, whispering words of protection and love. I realized with a start that the girl was me. The images came faster now, a whirlwind of memories and emotions. Battles fought, alliances forged, sacrifices made. Each vision revealed a piece of the puzzle, a deeper understanding of my family's legacy and my own place in the werewolf world.

The man asked, curiosity was visible in his voice making the two women frowned, while Vanessa was just looking at the spider with burning eyes. "Take that away from me! Or better kill that thing, it's so disgusting!" She shouts at them. "Hey, you might hurt her feelings especially now that Aracni is pregnant, she might lose her babies." Hunter said and gave the spider away to the guy beside him. "Pregnant what?! So you are saying that it will release many species like her? No, starting today. I don't want to see any of those creatures in this whole organization. Try me Hunter, or else you wanted to kill me?" Vanessa asked with authority in her voice. Hunter pouted in return.

I said, my voice getting louder with each word. A large disfigured spider, almost the same size as me, jumped out; its eyes were pitch black, and it had a scorpion's stinger at its back. "Stay away!" I yelled as I struggled. "Is someone there?! Magnus! Meredith!" I transformed halfway into my wolf form and growled at the spider, hoping to scare it away, but it persisted forward. The spider's beady eyes fixed on me, and it charged towards me with an eerie screech. I screamed, struggling to escape from the grip of the quicksand. But the spider ran straight into the quicksand, sinking like I was.

Inside, my wolf was laughing. She thought she was reeling me in. She thought the drugged tea she’d been slipping me for weeks was finally working. She thought the kiss, the confession, the shaking need in my voice — all of it was her victory. Poor little spider. She’d walked straight into the web. And I was the thing with eight legs and venom in every kiss. I lifted her. Carried her to the bed. Laid her down like she was something precious. Then I crawled over her, slow and predatory, and whispered every filthy, desperate thing I knew she wanted to hear.
