“Let’s see it.” I turned the paper over, and revealed the poem scrawled in pencil on the back. Down the streets of woodland black I wander, earth to hearse In every tree I see a wave A looming tidal curse On the cusp of something greater Stood ankle-deep in floodwater Stagnant pools of brown and red The onslaught is coming; I dread For each dark night and each pearl day The mist does clear too soon The floodplain is drown’d again The water, torn from its ocean womb

One born from a thief One who's lineage was stolen from birth Conflicted souls that would always cross the other's path Star-Crossed Souls whose paths were now twisted through deceitful hands Only one thing can declare the outcome One cannot survive without the other Only when the thief falls shall peace reign once more Upon a shining star Hope shall linger through a Holy Point Sleeping from within the depts of a lake Lies a will In the end Someone must always take the fall

The clock struck midnight as the moon climbed to its zenith. I lay in bed, feeling my wolf spirit slipping away, piece by piece. It was a slow, receding tide, pulling all the life from me. “Aria! Hold on!” My mother’s voice sounded distant, though she gripped my hand tightly. “The healer is almost here!” I tried to answer, to reassure her, but no sound came out. My eyelids felt like lead, the world around me blurring and fading to gray.

I received a complaint and a one-star review. It was from Christian. He was using such a childish tactic just to force an apology out of me. He wanted to force me to admit the severe consequences I had to face for abandoning him back then. However, I had only loved him passionately, like the sun loved the stars. Could that really be considered a mistake? “No, Nova, you didn’t do anything wrong,” I comforted myself, completely in denial. “The only mistake is that the sun and the stars belong to day and night. They are destined to never be together.”

After the short intro, Adrian began to sing. "A year has passed since the day you left But I know that I still haven't recovered yet... I’m wearing boxers and nothing else, and I’m still covered in grime and dust. How am I here? I look down at my bloody hands, blood that isn’t mine. Blood that belongs to a man I can no longer call the Grand Wizard because he’s dead, which makes me… Fallon is sitting on the storm-swept beach watching the sunset. Her hair lifts off her shoulders in a calm, warm summer breeze that’s not my doing. The air feels lighter somehow. The clouds drift high overhead, revealing the first stars blinking into existence against a pale periwinkle sky. The sun drops below the horizon, casting its final rays in shades of crimson.
