I’m sure Kate didn’t even realize who she was talking to. An hour later, Kate emerged from her room again. I was stunned by her appearance. She had fixed herself up nicely. She wore a black sleeveless top tucked into ripped jeans, paired with a shiny black leather jacket and a sling bag. It suited her perfectly, especially with her wavy hair highlighted in blonde. Her makeup was simple, making her look incredibly beautiful. The scent of her Bombshell perfume from Victoria’s Secret filled the air.

I frown, thinking on how familiar the male's voice was, searching my mind for where I might have heard it before. "Tonight," The Strange man continues, shrouded in the covering of his cape. "We have new commerades, as well as not so new Counsellors who will mold our new recruits into our way of life. We have lost many over the last year." A heavy pause as others glance at each other, or still others grumble around me and I can't help observe the hatred in their eyes. Where the hell had I taken myself to? "This time around, we will take nothing for granted." The stranger bellows, throwing off his hood in the process and I gasp, taking a step back.

The man felt numbness all over his body and slowly his vision blackened out, replaced by the darkness that surrounded him and made him unable to breathe. Steve tried to scream, trying his best not to sink into the darkness that was trying to swallow him up, but no sound could be heard, nor could he do anything when he finally lost the very short battle. And when Steve opened his eyes again, his eyes were the same color as the eyes of the mysterious creature that had infiltrated this research center. The mysterious female creature was now standing beside the object of their research, tilting her head in curiosity and consideration. Meanwhile, Steve moved forward at a brisk pace and turned off

I prepared for whatever it is that might appear in front of me, whatever it is that these people are scared of. Three people appeared, one of them a girl with skin as beautiful as the night sky with heavy curls that dropped down her waist. They looked just like us, humans. But I know they are different by their cunning eyes and their unquenchable thirst for blood. The man with pale skin and short dark brown hair stood in front of me. These creatures feed on fear, they rejoice at the sight of it. I would not give them a piece of enjoyment. “Shut the hell—“

“Ready, Alpha.” I tilted my head toward the sound of Kael struggling against the restraints. “Start with his hands.”

He looks like he’s trying to breathe through his mouth and not his nose, leaving me to assume he finds the scent off-putting, too. Tasha nods. “It’s not exactly the same, but it’s similar enough that whatever they’re from are definitely the same species if not the same…things.” She says “things” in a tone that projects both disgust and bewilderment. “Alpha!” I hear Channing call as he approaches with Blake and Serafina. It takes just a moment before I realize he’s carrying a human over his shoulder in a fireman’s carry. “Who do you have there, Channing?” I ask, feeling my mouth go dry and the sensation of my stomach dropping, fearing the answer.
