Josh orders some wine and water for the table while we keep talking. “So, what was the last book you read?” he asks me, and I really need to think about that one because I usually read SMUT, but I can’t really tell a man on our first date that I basically read porn but fuck that. He probably won’t even know it. “Heaven & Hell from Rosslyn Scott,” I say, and he frowns. I can tell he has never heard of it. “Spiritual book?” He asks, and I giggle.

“How about you don't take any drink in this hall, Heidi?” Surprised at his gesture, Heidi asked, “Why not, Steve? I'm just having a sip.” “Even a sip won't do,” Steve defended gently. Wasn't he acting oddly? Everyone else was drinking in the hall, why couldn't she? “A lady as astounding as you is bound to attract enemies,” Steve said. “It is better to be safe, Heidi.” Then he changed the topic, “While you stand like a lonely girl in this corner, I can see you're controlling everyone in this hall tonight. I never knew you were this smart.”

“Except for the new Nesmir Christie book, they did.” “Darn it, that book is the one we need to boost our new membership drive.” Her boss sounded aggrieved. “We did get the new books by Devlin Geris and John Rood.” She held up a copy each of the two writers whom she considered among the best in the business. “Hm, I suppose those will have to do.” Hamby shrugged indifferently. “We could get them to do a reading here at the library...” Doris looked at her boss expectantly. “Or at least one of them, John Rood maybe... ”

Kiara, still in character as Sarah, says " Hi, Steve! What do you like to do for fun?" Steve (aka Casey) says, "Well, I like to read books and play video games. What do you like to do, Sarah?" Sarah (aka Kiara) says, "Wow, we have a lot in common! I love reading and playing video games too! What's your favorite book?" Kiara was really enjoying this, so as Casey. Steve (aka Casey) answers, "My favorite book is 'The Lord of the Rings' by J.R.R. Tolkien. What's your favorite book?"

It piqued his interest and made him wonder how Emma’s father had gotten his hands on these books. Steve thought about how invaluable Emma could have been if they had been together. He was not going to lie, he doubted her profession as a healer the first time he saw her but now with a deadly virus inside him and most of his pack, he had seen first hand how quick thinking and resourceful she was. He was taking a leisure stroll through the library when his eyes caught something. It was a book with leather cover and had ADAMS written in a block of gold on its spine. Steve moved closer and reached for it.

When my shift ended, I found myself walking toward the corner table where Kael sat, his laptop closed now, a book in his hands. I stopped short when I saw the cover. ‘Knot We Cannot Untie.’ That was the book he was holding. I can't believe that Kael would be reading one of Linda Lively’s books. “You read… this?” I said, the surprise evidently in my voice. Kael looked up, one brow raised. “Why? You think I only read racing magazines and bank statements?” I gave a small laugh. “Chill bro. It’s just… not what I was expecting ”

" While pondering which of the many books I've read is the best, I feel someone's eyes on me. I turn and find Jacob staring. He doesn't look away even though I've caught him watching me. Hannah is talking to him, but he doesn't seem to be listening; his full attention is on me. Why is he so focused on me? He responded. “You meant the ones I killed?” I asked. “Ah yes, forgive my slip of the tongue. Yes. The three Cowards you killed” He corrected himself. “Do tell me, Steve. What did you find a bit of them that is so interesting to share with me? I thought their book had been closed and locked forever?” I dropped the book I was currently going through and toasted it aside like it were the book I was speaking of. “That was what I thought of at first your Highness but I found something worth sharing and I think needs to be treated with urgency” He spoke.

She had the same eyes as Gabby. He carefully put everything back and locked the drawer then he returned the book to its place. He then went ahead to the next drawer and pulled out another book, reading faster through the pages. He closed the thick book his fingers shaking slightly. He stared at the strange symbols on the cover before sliding it back into its secret place in the drawer. Then he closed the drawer, locked the door and left the library. As soon as Steve entered his room and locked the door behind him, the full weight of the prophecy hit him again like a heavy stone.
