The CEO's Stepdaughter
Steph arrives midmorning with a stroller that looks like it could survive a war zone and an expression that’s equal parts exhausted and glowing.
“Please tell me you have coffee,” she says, collapsing onto the couch.
“I have coffee,” I reply. “And sympathy.”
She groans. “The twins are feral.”
As if summoned by the word, two small, impossibly similar faces peer out from the stroller, one boy, one girl, both only a few months younger than Jade. Sawyer’s eyes stare back at me from their faces in stereo, and I laugh.
“They’re perfect,” I say.
Steph smiles, soft and proud. “They are. Terrifying. But perfect.”
