The sound of their heavy breathing filled the air. I smirked coldly at their entangled bodies and pressed "save" on the recording, thinking, "James Fullman, enjoy the calm before the storm."

The pack was putting up a strong defense, but the strays had the numbers and the element of surprise on their side. One of the strays, Zara, moved towards a group of pack members, her eyes narrowing as she spotted Xenia. She lunged, her claws outstretched, her eyes filled with determination. She struck Xenia hard, the force of the blow sending her sprawling to the ground. A smile of satisfaction crossed Zara's face as she watched Xenia fall, but that smile quickly faded.

Jax said, grabbing his tactical pack and the steel case of anti-toxin from my counter. As the line of leather and gray nylon filed out into the freezing downpour, the roar of the Harleys clearing the shipyard gates was a synchronized scream of vengeance against the night. I walked back to the table, my fingers steady as I drove the needle into the wounded Stray’s central line, watching the monitor as his frantic heart rate began to level out against the machine.

The arrows were finally let loose and a sweeping gesture of his arm brought forth a wall of ice to cover himself. An ear-splitting scream sounded from behind him and Kari stumbled. Aster. He couldn’t bring himself to turn around and see the arrows that had sailed over his wall to hit his innocent steed. Kane’s POV The moment Ava left, I felt it. The bond stretched thin, a faint ache sitting heavy in my chest, the kind that never let me forget she wasn’t here anymore. I forced myself to shove it aside. If I thought about it too long, I’d go mad. On the table in front of me lay three arrows. They were ordinary at first glance, but the black stains that coated the silver tips told a different story. Wolfsbane, burned into the grooves of the metal. Enough to paralyze an Alpha in seconds if it hit deep enough.
