It isn’t until the end of August that the first of the proper letters start, and it’s in clear response to one that Aura—that I had posted: Dearest Aura, Thank you very much for your correspondence. If it won’t sound too condescending, may I say that it was extremely charming? I wasn’t expecting it at all, but I should have realised how odd it was when you asked me for a copy of my itinerary three weeks ago. I’ve also always been fond of the end of summer. Checks the time 'Sh*t it's already six thirty'. Summer had begun and all of the neighborhood kids took advantage of every bit of daylight that shined. As soon as the sun come up you could hear the ATV's rummble from inside the house. Blacking out her windows to get some sleep during the daylight hours had done its job but there was nothing she could do about the noise disturbing her rest. She remembered what it was like to be a child. Carefree. Happy. Endless summer days with friends. That isn't something she dared ruin for them. You do know who’s to blame for how things turned out, don’t you?” After saying that, she stood up. Her voice was cool, stripped of any warmth or mercy. “Summer committed suicide. Forget her. She’s finally free, and you should move on too.” At the word “suicide,” John’s stiff fingers suddenly trembled. He had not heard that word in a long time.
