Summer Ends Novels & Stories

It was a tight, strange cuddle. It felt almost final. Summer pushed carefully away and smiled, she swiftly manoeuvred around her mum and opened the front door, never truly realizing that when she hit the evening air, how relieved she had felt to escape her home. Her thoughts didn’t last long though, as the bus to Ecklemoore Village was approaching the end of her road, and without further delay, summer made a run for it.

This time Summer looked away. She spent the majority of the day in her room doing nothing. Her thoughts meshed into one another like different colours splattered and mixed on a palette— messy and ugly. The elderly couple had gone to work, leaving food and keys. Liam had said to call them if she needed them. Summer wanted to get up, do something productive, but she simply did not have the energy to do anything. She felt tired, yet sleep evaded her. --**--

Ricky The murderous ray of sunlight that shone in the clear sky indicates the presence of summer season in Westwood. Parallel to that, it also meant beach, BBQ, and also summer festivals. Yes, summer festival. It’s time for the students of Saint Iriha to celebrate the upcoming summer festival that will be withheld in their university ground. The students were busy with their club activities and preparation for the festival, well, extra busy.

The Belmont Braves bus stopped at the gate of their school. Everyone sighed when they got off the bus. They were back to reality after the summer camp, which was held for only a month. They were all exhausted and wanted to go home right away. They all knew that they had to practice again next week. It was imperative that their team should have a practice thrice a week when it was summer, except those who already graduated. They would also prepare for their going to the universities they intended to go to study in the future.

And who loved listening to me read my books out loud. As summer got closer and closer to the ending he started drifting away. It surprised me a little bit but I brushed it off. It was the last day of summer when I realized it wouldn't work. Nathan had taken me to star gazing. We sat in the back of his truck gazing up at the stars. I was cuddled into his side like usual when I asked. "Are we going to tell our friends about our relationship? I know you wanted it just between us during the summer but schools tomorrow."

"Let's go find your mom, take some pictures, and get out of this suffocating polyester. We have a graduation party to crash, and exactly two months of summer to burn." I squeezed his hand, my heart soaring as we walked off the Blackridge turf for the very last time. August was still lurking in the distance, a quiet expiration date printed on the bottom of our fairy tale. But as Evans pulled me close, laughing in the bright June sun, I decided I didn't care about the calendar. I was going to burn the summer down with him, one perfect day at a time.

“How are your parents doing, anyway? I feel like it's been an age since I had a good long conversation with your Mom.” “Enjoying retirement,” he replied, shaking his head as they eased onto the road. “For a guy who swore he’d never quit the practice, Dad's sure having a great time without it. They’re home for the rest of the summer before jetting off on a European tour for an entire month. They just got home from Yosemite a few weeks ago.” “Wow. That’s different. They always seemed like such homebodies to me.”

Paul also noticed this, but in his defense, it was normal. The September End Fest will be starting on 28th and ending on the 30th. Three-day time of the festive atmosphere will be a hustle, that's why most people at this time were busy, same goes to Paul and Seri who will be performing on the 30th for the final event of the festival. While busy checking all the pieces of equipment, only the sound of the guitar's strings was vibrating throughout the room. Creak! Step.

The heat wave continues, and so do we—stolen afternoons, midnight swims, bodies tangled under the stars. Endless summer, endless us.

Fenella’s POV The end of the school year had arrived. Starting this Sunday, we will all return to our respective homes for the summer vacation. Of course, all the kids were excited about it, especially with the end-of-year dance party before we left. Everyone was enthusiastic, except for me.
