Slowly, he turned to look at me. The strange light in his eyes shone under the pale moonlight. Then his eyes moved down to my wrapped, bleeding feet.

“Sorry, he’s mine.” I swear that every time he heard that, his mood skyrocketed. He still did his morning ab workouts on the balcony, but I wasn’t out there doing any core exercises anymore. His eyes fluttered open, and in an instant, he lunged forward, his hands grabbing the rabbit from my grasp. I watched, awe-struck, as he sank his teeth into the creature’s neck, blood flowing from the rabbit into his waiting mouth. It was a primal sight, a stark reminder of the nature of his kind. My heart raced, a mixture of fear and relief flooding through me. He was feeding. He was fighting back.
