For me, strangers are defined as people who can sell their loyalty, and betray their own, at any point in time. That was all these people were to me. Strangers in suits. Strangers eating my food. Strangers celebrating a version of me that didn’t exist. And then I remembered Annabelle again. I saw her before she saw me. Because we exchanged glances. Annabelle sat there…small, quiet, alone in a hall full of people who came for me, not for her. No friend. No mother. No sister. No one to whisper to her that she looked beautiful.
