A stranger. Swallowing, I take a step back. I have never run into a stranger before on my own, most likely because I have never been on my own in the forest away from pack lands, mine or Eric's. I want to wait for him, continue talking to him, when I realize I don't even know his name and he never asked mine. I'm such a daft cow. Bloody hell. Here I am thinking there's some beautiful connection to this stranger I met by happenstance on a plane, when in actuality, he was just being nice, effectively making the time fly by.

She shrugged and I shook my head. "You won't understand, mum. And just so you know, my roommates in my second and third year respectively were something else. One was a noisemaker, playing music in high volume and the other was a home goer. Like. . .he went home every weekend like his life depended on it." I shook my head again. "Eileen, I was wrong. Cody's been arrested, Lexie ran off, and the neighbors won't stop whispering about me. I really realize my mistakes now. Eileen, please, come home and see me. You're all I have left…"

For me, strangers are defined as people who can sell their loyalty, and betray their own, at any point in time. That was all these people were to me. Strangers in suits. Strangers eating my food. Strangers celebrating a version of me that didn’t exist. And then I remembered Annabelle again. I saw her before she saw me. Because we exchanged glances. Annabelle sat there…small, quiet, alone in a hall full of people who came for me, not for her. No friend. No mother. No sister. No one to whisper to her that she looked beautiful. And God… she did look beautiful.
