Something hot. Tears.

A tear rolls down my cheek. I look in the mirror across the room and lift the vile to my cheek to catch the rolling tear. Another tear follows it and the drops accumulate in the base of the vile. I laugh softly to myself for doing something so stupid. I close the vile and lay down on my pillow. I tilt the vile from side to side, letting the droplet of tears run from the bottom to the top and then back down again.

I wiped my eyes again, but the tears kept falling. "Then you're feeling sick, right?" My son asked again, looking worried and about to cry following me. His hand reached out to help me wipe away the traces of my tears. "Tell me… so Mom can feel more relieved... I want to know and I also don't like seeing you sad like this...." I shook my head, took a deep breath, and tried to hold back my tears, which had mostly come out earlier. "Don't. Mom, it's okay. Tears are a great way to channel stored emotions, not just sadness."

Tears fell from my eyes and flowed down on my cheeks but he collected them on his fingertips. “Don’t cry….please!” He whispered.

“Because I don't feel strong right now. I feel like I am falling apart… and it is quite embarrassing that I'm letting you see it.” His eyes darkened, and his hand moved to my cheek, brushing another stray tear away. “Your tears are not a sign of weakness. It's a way for your mind and soul to cleanse themselves. Sometimes it is better to cry. There's nothing you should feel embarrassed about.” His cool fingers brushed the feverish skin on my cheek again. “And even if you fall apart, I will be here to collect your pieces and put them back together.” My blurred-by-tears eyes locked on his icy-blue ones. Chapter Two Ava’s POV The house was eerily quiet, except for the soft rustling of my hands as I packed away the last remnants of my past. I stood in Lily’s bedroom, my fingers tracing over the framed picture of my little girl. Her bright smile was frozen in time, her eyes full of the happiness she had always carried. My chest ached, but I couldn’t cry anymore—there were no tears left. No more pain to wipe on. Slowly, I removed the picture from the wall, placing it gently inside the bag I had set aside. The bag was meant for burning. I didn't want to see anymore of it that will bring pain towards me.

A small slither of happiness wraps around my heart, and yet I still can't stop the tears from falling. "Thank you." He whispers out, like those two words were the hardest thing to ever say in his life. Shock overcomes my body as my head shoots up to look at him, my vision slightly blurry from the tears. We just stare at one another no words between the two of us. As he wipes my tears from my cheeks, Alessandro's palm rises up to cup my cheek, warmth soaking into the skin there. His steely eyes meet my green ones. Time appears to have stopped, leaving only Alessandro and myself.
