There was a text message notification from Freddie, my friend and Special adviser. I glanced toward the opposite side of the table where he sat. He gestured at me to look at my phone. Making sure July’s attention was still on her unbearable presentation, I glanced down at my phone. Freddie sent me a meme that he’d cleverly created by swapping July's head with that of an evil looking Maleficent. I swallowed a snigger. Glancing at him, I shook my head and grinned. “Do you mind?” July's frigid tone broke me out of my thoughts.

I forced my attention to my phone, scrolling mindlessly, pretending none of this mattered. I shouldn’t have looked. Because the second I did, the screen slapped me with something that made my stomach drop. A meme. I text Sasha that night at eleven-seventeen. I spend twenty minutes composing it and then delete the whole thing and send a meme about a cat knocking a glass off a table. My phone sits there. It was someone from school. I clicked back to the message screen. There was no picture. No meme. Just two words. Hi Anna.

She said with a smile. I was helpless. I know if I wanted to hear those words from her mouth, I had to continue working hard. “Alright, I hung up then.” Ailina hung up the phone. Then she sent me a naughty expression of a little rabbit baring her teeth. I usually didn’t use Memes when using W******p. When I saw Ailina’s cute one, I didn’t know what to reply.
