ROSALINA'S POV The sun had dipped below the horizon, casting a warm orange glow over the city skyline. I stood in front of the Stellar Heights Apartments, the exterior adorned with a modern aesthetic that exuded a sense of comfort and elegance. A chill danced through the air, hinting at the impending arrival of autumn. According to Chloe's description, the community lounge was on the top floor, just across from the gym. As I entered the building, I pressed the button for the elevator, hoping it would be quicker than my previous encounter.

"Welcome to Hope Haven Apartments. How can I assist you today?" I explained my situation, not leaving out any details about my pregnancy. To my surprise, the receptionist nodded sympathetically. "We understand that everyone's circumstances are unique. Let me check if we have any available units for you." She typed away on her computer, and my heart raced as I waited for her response. Finally, she looked up and smiled. "Exactly how you want it, we do have a one-bedroom apartment available, and we'd be happy to rent it to you."

I shook my head, “She was so happy. I didn’t have it in me to ruin that. Let Yvette be alive to one of us.” She reached across the table and squeezed my hand. “How’s apartment hunting going?” She asked, changing the subject smoothly. I had checked out four places so far. One looked like a drug and sex joint, the other had a roach infestation, bugs literally crawling through the walls. I shuddered. The third had scheduled water days. And the rest of the time, you were on your own. Which didn’t suck but for the price it was going for, I expected more.

I am still worried about my mother, but I know they wouldn't do anything to her as long as they can use me. When I got there, I was guided to a hundred-worth apartment that is the size of a capsule. It has a single bed, small table, small kitchen area and a common restroom for the tentlants to use. It was so narrow that you could reach the kitchen when you stood up from the bed. "Well? Are you going to take it?" The middle-aged woman chewing a gum, impatiently asked me.

Avita exchanged hello with other tenants who lived in the complex. She had lived in this complex for nearly a year and was well acquainted with some of the inhabitants.
