The "Appalachia Crystal" was more than a geological patch; it was a living monument. In the days following the stabilization of the West Virginia void, the reports coming into the Vermont homestead were staggering. The ground hadn't just stopped shaking; it had begun to sing. People living above the hollow reported a soft, indigo glow emanating from the soil at night, and the local Scriptoriums were recording the cleanest, most resonant "Living Script" in history.

"It's been a whirlwind few weeks." "I bet it has! Well, I'm sort of calling to make things more complicated, but in a good way." I stand, walk to the windows, and sip my coffee. "Complicated? I'm not sure I like the sound of that." "Good way! I promise." She laughs, light and bright. "Okay, so here's the deal. There's a climbing company called Appalachian Peaks—" "I know them," I say automatically, looking over my shoulder. "I'm staring at a pair of their shoes right now."

Her striking white hair, a mark of her lineage, was a source of pride, not something to be concealed. That wasn’t far from where my parent’s pack was. Still, Alpha Dylan’s pack was in the Rocky Mountains. This means I was going back across the U.S. Exactly where I had run from.

I left the door flap to my tent open so every now and then a small light breeze comes to cool me down. The air is fresh up here in the Boonies, I’ve missed being in the mountains and I didn’t even realized it until I got here. I didn’t grow up around this area of the Appalachian mountains, but I did grow up in Blue Ridge which is apart of the Appalachians but we’re not very close to it. By the time I open my eyes, the sun has gone down behind the trees, making the sky an impeccable orange color while the ground is shadowed with a blue hue.

The five of them hiked through the trees and straight as they could across the ridgeline. The last of the morning fog had lifted by the time they stepped back out of the trees and the great hills of the south became visible. They called them the Dividing Mountains; an enormous, rugged mountain range that stretched east to west for many miles, separating the northern territories of Ravenna from the south. It was not often that Lyda and Adea came this far south to get a good view of the mountains, at least not on their own, and Adea was soaking it all in.

I'm not so pissed off that I can't admit she has a nice rack, but I am a bit vindictive. Me: Nice rack, but this isn't a family camping trip. It's late April here in West Virginia, and being in the mountains, it's even cooler. Though, it's great camping weather and perfect for a couple who wants to snuggle up to stay warm.
