The philosophical surrender of a five-year-old whose body had decided, regardless of what the day contained, that rest was required.
Sofia did not sleep.
She sat with her hands folded in her lap and she looked at the road and she said nothing for forty minutes. Then she said, "Will we go back?"
"To Millbrook?" Elena said.
"To the grave," Sofia said.
Elena looked at the road.
"Yes," she said. "We'll go back."
"The stone has the wrong name on it," Sofia said.
Elena looked at Dominic.
He looked at the road.
"We'll fix it," Elena said.
