He inclined his head slightly, as if to say he trusted her with his life. The horns blared. The enemy charged. The first crash came at the eastern gate. The battered wolf’s-head ram, repaired and reinforced with iron, swung forward with terrible force. The weakened doors, already scarred from the night before, shuddered violently. Dust rained from the arch above as defenders shouted in terror.

Alayna, Elise, and Nerissa all stepped to the side as the enemy army marched forward either not noticing or paying no mind to the lack of guards stationed at the wall. There were no enemies in sight as far as they could see, and the gate was open so the few who did notice figured nothing was amiss. Darius's POV My dad didn't look very pleased when he arrived from the meeting, but he didn't say a word. I woke up the next morning, and headed to the training ground with Josh.
