"Stop acting like we're best friends." Liana looked at the gun held limply by his hand. It was facing down and the safety was on. She charged at him and they both fell, his head hitting the floor with a thud. She winced and tried to get up but he grabbed her hand. She tried to bite his while pulled her down with so much strength that she fell on top of him. She heard a deep animalistic growl and saw his body twisting and fur growing on it. “Laura, I know you are here because you want answers.” “Yes, Old Mia. I want to know who I really am.” “Laura...just like the moon. A namesake of one of the original werewolves.” “Original werewolves?” “There were five original werewolves: Silas, Abel, Barnabas, Tabitha and Lunamara. Among the five, Silas is the first. He is the one true Alpha. Silas mated with Lunamara and they started a line of werewolves. You are descended from this line. You have the blood of the first wolf. That makes you special. I could feel the rotation of the earth beneath my feet. I looked down at the mark. It wasn't a jagged wound. It was a glowing, silver sigil of a wolf’s head, etched perfectly into my skin. The heat radiating from it was intoxicating—a constant, pulsing reminder that we were no longer two separate beings. The door to the chamber finally gave way. The first of the Pack—a massive, scarred Beta named Silas—lunged through the threshold, his eyes blood-red with the madness of the Blood Moon. He didn't see an Alpha and his mate; he saw a target.

It meant that he succeeded in retrieving the footage. “So, I was telling you that the first werewolf pack, the Moon Child Pack, was formed by a lycan who was blessed with the first werewolf, the very first king of the werewolves.” He continued excitedly, and I just listened to him.

I left her and everybody. I did everything I could, and now I'm sitting on the throne. My sweat was worth it. I looked at the elders and ground my teeth. Only to have a bunch of old men dictate to me what my next date will be? Never. "Must it be a she-wolf from that clan?" I gritted my teeth. "Yes," elder Felix eyed me. I nodded quietly. First-generation werewolves were nearly extinct. Hard to find. Even harder to claim. They were born of pure blood, untouched by human ancestry. And the elders knew it. Being one of the ancient packs, They had a strong connection with nature. History has it that some of the first ever werewolves had shown up in Greenland, and then they had sailed with the Vikings during the battle against the England empire. Somehow, the wolves had settled in Scotland and started the High Moon pack, which over many centuries, had grown from a few barbaric wolves to hundreds of nature-loving, gentle -- The iron grip grasped my wrist. Apparently, there is a black sheep -- or should I say -- black wolf amongst the others.

Then came the rustling of leaves, the unmistakable sound of footsteps—many of them. “Rogues,” I whispered, my heart racing again, but this time not as fast as the usual times. Kael’s eyes darkened, his grip tightening on the hilt of his dagger. “No. This is something worse and tougher.” The first figure emerged from the trees—a massive wolf, its eyes glowing a sickly green. Its fur was matted with blood, its teeth bared in a snarl. It wasn’t alone. Dozens of them followed at his back, each more firece looking than the last.

Night after night, Black gazed up at the moon, beseeching Selene to lend him the strength to triumph over his foes. Touched by Black's fervent devotion, Selene answered his prayers. She granted him the ability to shift into a wolf, merging his human essence with the spirit of the wild. Black became the first werewolf, a creature of duality, mastering the balance between his human intelligence and the instincts of the wolf.
