I didn't know what that little app had really been—maybe a version of myself from another timeline, maybe the last mercy the universe had decided to give me. I typed two words and hit send. [Thank you.] A gust of night wind swept past. The text thread flickered into a jumble of code and vanished from my phone entirely—as if it had never existed. I lifted my head, looked at Ed, looked at this beautiful, vibrant city, looked at the dazzling future stretching out before me.

“It has nothing to do with our transaction.” They held eyes for a long moment, and she sighed, tucking the book away into her robes. “You’ll be wanting accommodation whilst you read?” she said. “That would save me taking the book off the property.” From the way he said it, I gathered that such a thing would not normally be allowed, but that would not prevent him doing so if he needed to. “What are your plans for the future?” she raised her wine to her lips. “Our queen is a great supporter of the magical arts, and we are trying to grow this facility.”

I refused to let the overgrown flying lion intimidate me. "Tell me," he responded. He sat on his haunches, and the earth beneath him shook. Abernathy blinked, waiting with interest. Or perhaps boredom. I focused on his long black lashes. "Sharra is growing more and more ambitious for power. I fear if she succeeds in her plans, the world as we know it will be lost. Only those she deems worthy will retain the magic, and six of the seven magics will be destroyed." I paused, unable to meet his gaze, and took a secret breath.

Perhaps I’ve lost my mind. Perhaps I’ve already jumped and this is all a hallucination on the brink between worlds.

When I yawned and stretched, all three focused on me. “Well? What did you see?” Jarek asked. I considered, thinking back to the visions that had washed through me. “I… don’t remember. They’re like dreams, the type you forget when you wake up. But I do know some things. We’re going to have problems in the future. The magic is settled for now, but evil is coming. We’ll have to work with the town to prepare them. We need to make a safe place for those of us with magic to embrace themselves.”

A single tear falls down her cheeks as she finally lets go of my hand. “Right now you have two futures,” she says tentatively. “One without the magic that you possess and the other is if you keep it.” I don’t have to ask which one of the futures is which. The magic that is coursing through my body is not light. It is dark magic. If I keep it I will become dark just like the magic within me. “If you take the magic away, I will be a human again?” I ask. “You may keep your lycan but I don’t have any way of knowing,” Grandma Lyra says softly.

He needed to be calm for someone with big expectations like Tonia. "What about the future?" she asked eagerly. "Y-yes" the Mage wondered why she just started asking so many questions. She was always uninterested.

Anubis says. The mage speaks instead. "That wouldn't have changed his inevitable death. No matter what we would have done, you would have eventually killed him." Anubis laughs. "Are you some kind of fortune-teller?" "My powers let me see into the future, yes. Would you like to see what awaits your future?" "I have an idea of what will happen. But I would like to be certain." "Very well. Your death is guaranteed if you keep chasing your goals for vengeance. The forbidden magic spell you used to get this strong has corrupted your mind. Gaining so much power in such little time has made you feel like a god."
