The Mafia's Kidnapped Bride
I moved quickly, my gloved hands already sifting through the papers, looking for a guest log, anything with names and room numbers.
"Goddamn it, where is it?" I whispered, my eyes scanning frantically. Time was against me. The clerk would realize I wasn't coming back for his help soon enough.
Then I saw it. A thick, leather-bound book, tucked under a stack of invoices. "Guest Register," it read on the spine. Bingo.
I pulled it out, my fingers flying through the pages. Dates, names, room numbers. I went back to the previous day’s entries. There it was. A name. A familiar name, written in a cramped, almost illegible hand.
