Foundling
He walked past Poe into the common room toward the stairs, where a serving maid gave him a cursory glance.
Once in the room, Hunter replied, “Where else would I go.” Hunter took an apple from a platter of fruit and cheese and jerky.
“Back to the forest, the known, the familiar.”
Hunter licked apple juice from his fingers and placed the remnants of the core back on the platter. He picked up a piece of cheese, gave it a sniff before placing it back on the platter.
“There is no going back, no safety to be found in the known and familiar, and since I am less than I once was, it is best that I stay with you.”
