He was clean-shaven with russet brown hair that grew past his ears, brushing the top of his shoulders. All in all, he looked like a man who’d seen much in life, and who’d done much as well. There was a scar running down his cheek, from his eye to his jaw like a tear track. He wore only a pair of pants, standing barefoot on the plush carpet of the office.

"But look." He pointed to the center of the clearing. A man was standing there, wearing a simple black suit. He had no silver eyes and no gold armor. He looked like a normal man, except for one thing. He was holding the real Elle by the hand. And he was holding a gun to her head. The man looked at me and smiled. It was a smile I recognized from my childhood. It was my father’s face, but he wasn't a machine. He was young. He was human.
