Chapter 25 POV: Aeron Darkwood Somewhere in the middle of the dark woods. A loud whimper echoed in the middle of the dark forest, followed by a painful growl – making the birds fly away from their own resting nests and breaking the deafening silence of the night. Dark red blood splattered the ground and painted the wild grass and weeds. The entire place was terrifying and perilous at just one glance. A man with no left arm was slowly breathing and sniveling due to the agony he felt. He already knew that he would face his tragic end today. He knew he wouldn’t have another chance at proving his worth and loyalty.

I screamed, kicked feebly, fearing the end. Suddenly, a loud crack rang through the woods. And then, chaos followed. I didn’t see much, it all happened so fast and my head was too foggy. I caught flashes of movement. A deep guttural growl that sounded too dangerous. Rogues yelping. Bones snapping. One body flew past me, landing against a tree with a sickening thud. And then he was there. A man built like a god. Tall. Cloaked in darkness and fury.

O N E The scraping branches accidentally touched the man's cold sweat. The man was so consumed with the idea of escaping that he almost did not feel the rock caught in his feet. Even barely heard the crunching and breaking of dead leaves and twigs against his boots. Almost did not see the tall trees rising out of the earth to touch the sky, not even aware of the creaking and groaning sounds they made as they swayed. They were not important to him after all. What he needed to pay attention to was the energy and strength inside his body to escape from his adversaries.

he whispered to his useless legs, cursing them. It was nearly midnight. The surrounding woods loomed like a tunnel of shadows. He crawled through the grass, into the thicket, trying to stay conscious. Every time a branch scraped his arms or a root caught on his robe, he gritted his teeth and pulled forward. He didn’t know how far he made it before his arms gave out. The forest floor tilted, spun, and darkness closed in. — Two headlights cut through the trees. “Wait, what the hell is that?” a young man muttered from behind the wheel of an old pickup truck.

ck? Without hesitation, I dart as fast as I can through the woods. Even though I am oddly able to see through the woods at night, everything is a blur and it feels like I am running ninety miles an hour. I make the mistake of turning around to make sure the man still isn’t following me, and end up running into a BRICK WALL! I fall down hard, landing flat on my a.ss. What the fuck is a brick wall doing in the middle of the forest?

he panted. "I'm not going anywhere," I snarled. "You don't understand," he panted, his hand on my wrist tightening with pathetic strength. "They're still. close." My heart pounding. Before I could even try to wrap my head around what was happening, something started moving in the woods. A gruff, low growl. I was frozen where I was. That was not a man. The man's eyes went wide with fear. "Run…" I shook my head back and forth, my breath stuck in my throat.

A faint disturbance rippled through the forest. The wind stopped. Birdsong vanished. Even the branches seemed to hold still. The eldest warrior cursed quietly. “Get ready.” His hand dropped to the dagger at his belt. Because wolves had survived this long by trusting instinct. And instinct was screaming. Someone was coming. The trees parted. Not violently. Not like something crashing through the forest. They simply… shifted. Making space. And a man stepped into the clearing. He looked ordinary. Tall. Lean. Dark hair falling loosely around his face.

I close my eyes, anticipating this to be the last time as I let the current wash me away into oblivion as I recall the last 12 hours of my life. (FLASHBACK) I snapped the book I was reading closed as I shuffle it into my shoulder bag and stand up to stretch. I have been reading on this park bench for the last hour and my bum is sore. I stand up and attempt to walk back towards the road when I notice a man staring at me from the roadway. He isn't doing anything other than just staring at me. He's got a black leather jacket on, dark wash denim pants, and black combat boots. He may have been attractive if it wasn't for the blind white of one of his eyes with a huge scare moving down his face fr

I stood outside at first then after looking around for some time, I strolled into the woods, I walked slowly taking each step gracefully breathing in the fresh air and the scent of nature, then I heard some footsteps approaching, they were heavy steps and the person coming seemed to have been running cause I could hear him or her panting, worried I walked towards the direction, then I saw a man from behind, he seemed lost and it was normal because even someone like me who had been in the woods for months, I still get lost every now and then, the man kept looking around panting heavily, going over as gently as possible I tapped his shoulders and he let out a scream as he turned, it was when h
