The hush that followed his arrival was almost holy.
The High Minister, one of the few untainted by Indira’s corruption, stepped forward and read the decree:

Prince Adrian Augustus of Deira shall ascend as Sovereign,
to restore peace to the crown and unity to the realm.”
A murmur rippled through the crowd, not of protest, but of reverent approval.
Isabelle stood beside him, veiled in pale gold. Though her features were still soft from recent illness, her bearing was regal, calm, luminous. She did not smile, but her hand slipped into Adrian’s, and that single gesture spoke louder than any oath.
