I opened the cover, laid back and delved into the pages. Minutes. Hours. I wasn't sure how long, and I was enthralled into the book. This romance was very different from the ones in the library back home. The ... chemistry. The sex. It had me on the edge of my seat, and glancing over my shoulder to see if Marcus was looking.

FINAL DAY OF THE AWAKENING Chaos’s P.O.V I was awoken by the beating of drums and the echoes of a chant you rarely heard even back in our home realm. A chant that was as old as time itself. I turned to find Xavier leaning against the headboard with his eyes squeezed shut.

Looking around I don’t notice any animal tracks and the dirt floor seems dry enough. “This will do” I think, as I open the pack. Rummaging around I quickly come across the blanket, soon after some protein bars and even a couple of water bottles. I lay the blanket down on the ground and take a seat. “Huh. he must have found these before he took me” I open a bar and begin to chew while I await Xander’s return.

The chamber was surrounded by rising bookshelves that were filled with ancient tomes and scrolls. It smelled like old paper left out to rot in all the corners of the world for a hundred years; air that was so thick and musty with tales untold, you could fill balloons with it. "By the goddess," I answered in a hushed voice, "where are we?" Ria's joyful voice rang in Luna's head, 'Looks like we just struck gold, Luna' "The Complete Chronicles of the First Pack," I read aloud. "The Lunar Prophecies. Bloodlines of the Ancient Alphas." My heart raced with each new discovery.

That’s when she figured that Isabella wasn’t from here. “You must be from another time period.“ “What do you mean?” “The thing you messed with wasn’t an hourglass. It was a witching glass.” “A witching what?” “The thing you called an hourglass. I read about it in my mothers’ books. It's an hourglass that’s been enchanted to control time. This item allows a person to travel between the past, the present, and the future.” “So, am I in the past?” “Yes.” “What year is it?”

Beneath it was various other books, none that I recognized except a translation of the Dead Sea Scrolls. “I know it can be intimidating and unnerving to think the answers to what you’ve seen these past few days...and to more than you know are mostly contained in this. But trust me. When I finish educating you, it will all make sense.” And there was his hand on my arm again. I knew now this wasn’t his way of flirting, but his way of consoling. I looked at the mound of books. He cracked open the bible to Genesis, chapter 6.

“I want to see their graves and pay me respects.” “There are no graves.” “You didn’t bury the dead?” “They turned to dust, apart from those who chose to die before they changed.” “Then show me those graves.” Once on land, I use Ragnar as a walking staff. In the camp, most of the huts that were made when we arrived are now over shadowed by the black smoke rising from their ashes.

Draynon nodded and opened the book. He leafed through the book until he found the chapter that he was looking for. “Here we go. Now this was roughly 120 years ago, or four generations. It’s not so much a history book, but written similar to a novel to make the facts easier for the reader to remember, rather than just bombarding them with endless seeming names and numbers.” He coughed once to clear his throat and began reading from the book.

"I haven't read of him in your history." Marcus owned the only known text of beastkind and vampire lore in North America. He brought the heavy volumes with him when he left Europe. Amy was fascinated by the history that humans would find dark but fanciful, similar to Grimm's Fairy Tales. Much of the text was handwritten, which Amy spent hours deciphering. Her journalistic background needed an outlet and the books provided her with the tools to try to understand who and what she really was.

The papers were covered in Roxy's neat, yet hurried, scribbles. Each page was dedicated to a specific supernatural species, with titles like "Reaver", "Vampire", "Werewolf", "Cryomancer", and "Witch" heading each section. Beneath these titles, Roxy had jotted down notes, presumably extracted from my book. “This book has a lot of history in it, and a lot of different species' history as well. I didn't want to keep your book forever, so I’m making my own book. My own supernatural compilation.” Her matter-of-fact tone couldn't disguise the pride shining in her eyes, and I could tell she was thrilled with her project.
