There was no way it wouldn't end in a very ugly way. And despite the growing need to show him that I was there, and that no other girl who answered his Stories was more interesting than me, I also didn't want to make it clear to him that I would be available at any time to answer his messages, but I couldn't pretend to myself that I was at the mercy of someone I barely knew, and it was very wrong to admit God forgive me, but I judged a book a lot by its cover. And Flynn Ashton's book seemed to me like the bible, so angelic that man seemed to me.

"This place requires a little more… flair. And let’s be real—flair isn’t exactly your style." His gaze sharpens just slightly, amusement flickering beneath it. “Never judge a book by its cover,” he says, lifting a brow at me. Of course. I drain my glass in one go. And for the entire time we sit there, I make a conscious effort not to look at them. Not at him. Not at her. Shaun refills my glass without asking. I drink that one too. At some point, I lose count of how many I’ve had, the burn becoming familiar, easier—until the edges of everything start to soften just enough.

I asked myself, making my way to the desk to pick up the book. The book felt light in my hands. As soon as I opened the book, a flood of light pooled out, blinding me for a brief moment. I threw the book down, but it was already too late. Everything began to spin, and then I was sucked into the words on the pages of the book.

Before I could move, the nearest shelf lurched sideways just enough that the glass hit wood instead, burying itself in a copy of NEON GRAVE CITY—HAZARD SUBROUTINES The book took the blow and burned from the inside, its text sacrificing itself in a puff of code‑ash. I felt the Authors’ intent in the way the world shifted. Not commanding me. Backing me. Like a crowd leaning against the same door I was trying to shoulder open. “Thank you,” I whispered, throat tight. The hum surged, like a pleased laugh in fifty different voices. The administrator did not laugh. Its mass jerked as the invisible pushes hit. Screens knocked askew tried to snap back into formation and failed. A page‑cluster on one

Joanne’s POV The burning in my chest spread like wildfire, searing through every vein until I couldn’t tell where the pain ended and I began. The room spun in violent circles; the world narrowed to choking smoke, black edges closing in. I tried to pull myself out of the fire and the rubble it created in its path, but I knocked into something that halted me. I barely managed to glance up in time to see the bookshelf sway, a hulking shadow tilting forward, ready to crush me.

My eyes flicked up from the book in front of me to glare at the small window next to me, where there were two birds perched on a branch outside looking as if they were ready to take flight at any moment. The moon was shining brightly overhead, but the sky appeared cloudless. And not just that - when I looked down at the book I could see it glowing dimly with some kind of weird glow. There was no light reflecting off of it whatsoever. The glow looked almost magical, and my breath hitched in my throat. It felt almost like magic - maybe I was seeing things but what was worse my wolf growling and snarling inside of me , telling me that something was very, very wrong.

How could she not warn me and end up putting me in such an embarrassing situation? Clicking his tongue, a glint flashed across Sin’s eyes as he darted the book to me, meeting my shameful glance. "I didn’t know you read novels like this." Using only one large hand, he slammed the book shut. The action made a thud, causing me to blink. "You know, you don’t have to, though. Reality is much, much better, as I’m certain you can attest." He watched me swallow at his question, and before I could find the courage to reply, he leaned forward until he was only inches away from my face. "I have no problem showing you how insanely great I am, much better than what’s written here."

I replied, my voice filled with guilt. Alex opened his mouth to say more, but his aunt interrupted. “It’s time you all know the truth” She said as she opened the book, flipping through its fragile, yellowed pages until she landed on an illustration. The image depicted a man so handsome and ethereal he seemed almost unreal. His golden hair glowed like sunlight, his piercing blue eyes radiated power, and his angelic face was adorned with a serene, yet arrogant, expression. Ashley, Alaina, and Mia couldn’t help but gasp in awe.
