THE MAD ALPHA
Rain, hair plastered to her face, soaked clothes clinging, looking at me with something I cannot name, and then gone.
“Do not,” the curse insists. “Do not hold onto her. She is a fragment. She is a mistake. She is not yours.”
“Shut up,” I say. It is all thought, all raw force, and yet it is real enough. I feel the wolf bristle, spike, coil.
“Do not fight this,” the curse says. “It is for your own good. You cannot align. You cannot win.”
“Try me,” the wolf hisses, snapping at the walls and almost making a crack appear. I feel the edge of it. A ripple. Movement where there should be none.
