They were trapped somewhere deep inside me, tangled up in a knot of sobs and panic that I couldn't untie no matter how hard I tried.

I opened my mouth, but my throat felt completely dry, and the words got stuck right behind my teeth. "I... I..." My mind's vibrating so loud that I have the urge to put my hands on my ringing ears and silence it. I'm getting dizzy with the overwhelming feeling of fear. The impending doom, hanging over me.

I didn't dare to utter another word. The car was too quiet, too heavy with everything unspoken, and I wasn't sure my voice would even work if I tried to force something out.
