Anya's POV I wanted to speak, to tell him something—anything—but my throat had completely locked up, like someone had wrapped their hands around it and squeezed. The words I needed were right there, sitting heavy on my tongue, but they felt useless, absolutely worthless. They were trapped somewhere deep inside me, tangled up in a knot of sobs and panic that I couldn't untie no matter how hard I tried.

My jaw trembled as the absolute weight of his intense words crashed over my mind, making my chest heave for air. I opened my mouth, but my throat felt completely dry, and the words got stuck right behind my teeth. "I... I..." I stammered out awkwardly, my face flushing a deep crimson color as I completely lost my ability to form a proper sentence under his dark, burning gaze.

The words stuck in my throat like a hard pill I couldn’t swallow. “Say it back,” he whispered. “Tell me you love me, Angel.”

Too much to take in. I wanted to speak, to say something—anything—that could make sense of it all. But my throat tightened, and the words stuck, like jagged shards in my chest. I stared down at the floor, my hands trembling. How could I tell him? How could I make him understand? I gulped harshly, forcing myself to speak, though my voice was barely more than a whisper. “I... I didn’t know,” I mumbled, my words stumbling out, awkward and hesitant. “I... I didn’t know it was for me.”

She nodded as thousands of words got stuck in her throat, not knowing what to say for a moment. “Stubborn as a mule!” spat Bailey through gritted teeth.

but the sound that came out was strained and hoarse. Panic set in as I realized I couldn't speak. My throat felt like it was on fire, the burning sensation spreading through my chest. I tried to speak again and again, but all that came out were weak, strangled sounds. Not until I heard someone clear their voice beside me. "Lady, please don't stress yourself. You need to give your throat time to heal from the burn. It's going to take a while." His words were meant to be soothing, but they only fueled my frustration.

Why can't I turn them off, or slow them down? Words go unspoken, unheard. They get stuck in my throat. I need to scream into the empty, open-air, but all sounds dissolve into the vacuum of the dark void, surrounding me. My mind's vibrating so loud that I have the urge to put my hands on my ringing ears and silence it. I'm getting dizzy with the overwhelming feeling of fear. The impending doom, hanging over me.

My throat dried. Gosh… I’m cooked.

I didn't dare to utter another word. The car was too quiet, too heavy with everything unspoken, and I wasn't sure my voice would even work if I tried to force something out. The silence pressed against me from all sides, thick and suffocating, like trying to breathe underwater. My throat felt tight, dry, like all the words I wanted to say—the apologies, the confessions, the desperate explanations—had jammed together in a knot that wouldn't budge no matter how hard I swallowed.

I wanted to confront her, to raise my voice and demand an explanation for her audacity, but when I tried to speak, my voice betrayed me. It was as if my throat had suddenly become a barren desert, devoid of any sound. Panic welled up inside me as I frantically clutched at my throat, desperately trying to make sense of this sudden loss of voice. Tears streamed down my cheeks, betraying the turmoil that raged within me. How could I express my thoughts and feelings when I couldn't even find the words to do so?
