These weren’t the same as her own topside weapons, and instead of curved horns these were massive barrels that tapered down at the tip. Arcs of orange electricity swept from the bottom of the barrels all the way to the tip as they charged up. They gathered up faster and faster until they formed bright spheres at the very tips, then fired their projectiles through it. The massive guns infused their spiked slugs with disintegration energies and shot them at Thanatos at the same time. The spikes all smashed into the chitin one right after the other, at nearly the exact same spot. Each of them dug deep in, and caused massive cracks and fissures to break across the surface.

I fumed. “Okay, I'm sorry cousin brother. I only wanted to understand the full condition of things.” Felix said, raising his hands up, as if in surrender. The cigarette was still in his mouth. I looked him down and signed in sadness. “They came to Docks Twelve with some sort of new weapon, like a harmless balloon in the air. It took out almost all of us in less than three seconds.” Scales explained to him. “Oh, the X-16 Pulse Retreater on it again!” Felix exclaimed. “Y'all hadn't gone with an air diffuser? The air diffuser puts that weapon off real quick, before it even starts.”

He reached out with his other hand and grabbed a jagged shard of ice that had fallen from the ceiling—a long, wicked spike that glittered like a diamond. With a single, fluid motion, he drove the spike through Silas’s chest. "Ash, no!" Rhea screamed. The sound of the ice piercing flesh was wet and final. Silas gasped, his eyes flying open as he was pinned against the sapphire pillar. The ice spike went through his heart and deep into the pillar behind him, anchoring him to the cathedral itself.

“Starting CPR.” I watched as they pressed over and over onto her chest. The other paramedic quickly cut her bra open and set up the defibrillator and pressed the button on it.
