I am falling. And yet, somehow, I am floating. Gravity has lost its hold on me. The air wraps around my body like water, thick and weightless at the same time. I cannot tell whether I am sinking into an endless abyss or drifting through some invisible current. There is no direction, no ground beneath my feet, no sky above my head. Only the strange sensation of motion without progress. The fall never ends. I close my eyes and curse under my breath, irritation flaring inside my chest.

Like someone had turned the volume down on the universe and left me floating in the quiet. The last thing I registered was Lucas shouting my name—sharp, panicked. Distant, like it came from underwater. Then a woman’s voice, clipped and alarmed. “Oh my God, someone help!” Footsteps rushing. A bag falling. And then—silence again. My body felt weightless, like I’d stepped out of it. Like I was suspended somewhere in between. No pain. No noise. No pressure. Just the vague sense of falling.

The frantic buzzing in my ears began to fade into a deep thrum. Oh goddess, I thought, a wave of excitement threatening to ruin it. I must be entering the calm state finally. I pushed the excitement down and gave my all to the vision. I let the lively, simple image consume my mind entirely. The boundary between my body and the ground seemed to blur. It felt exactly like I was floating. The very air around me became heavily charged, vibrating with a static energy that made my skin tingle. It was a bizarre, beautiful feeling—like I was everywhere in the garden and absolutely nowhere at the same time.

Demetria suggested. "OK." Clarice murmured. She shut off everything and focused on freeing herself from the heavy pressure building up inside her. She pretends she flies like a kite, floating in the air. Then a miracle happened. She felt lightheaded like paper. She could feel her body moving up an inch, losing contact with the sofa. She dared not open her eyes, scared of what she would see and accidentally losing her concentration.

I am so frustrated that I’m having trouble functioning; I think my lungs have forgotten how to breathe, my legs how to walk, and my head how to think. I feel euphoric and drugged, my hind so hazy that it can’t comprehend what’s happening. I feel as if the world is moving in a supersonic version while I’m trailing behind at a snail’s pace.

This is just what I needed to let go; exactly what I needed to escape my harsh and sweet reality for a while. It feels like I am on top of the world, seeing things from a different perspective and looking at the bigger picture. I feel weightless like a jet ski flying across the water, but instead, on land and a horse is flying past everything. The breeze blows through my curls, causing it to flow behind me like a superhero cape.

I'm still fully aware of everyone around me, but it doesn't feel real, it feels like I'm watching from above. I watch as my two mates look at me, checking my pulse, feeling for me in my mind. They find me in both places, but I am not completely responsive. I am just floating around in this world. Why don't they just tell me what's happening. Then it hits me. They don't know, do they? They have no idea why I am going into this sleep like state.

I am floating. I don’t feel as if I have a body anymore. I am only a spirit, hovering above the earth a little ways. I can’t feel a single thing--not my hands or feet or inner organs. Even my head feels lighter than air. My memory is hazy, and all I can recall is that something awful has happened. For a few moments, I try to remember if there’s a chance I am actually dead, and I feel like I am hovering above the ground because I am doing just that.

Zahra's POV Floating, I feel like I'm suspended on a soft cloud gliding through warm air, encased in silk. This floaty, silky sensation is warm, comfortable, and weirdly safe—a stark contrast to the norm. I’ve never felt anything like this. If this is what dying feels like, I might be okay with it.

“Me too.” I tried closing my eyes hoping that it would calm all my nerves. I’m feeling extra elated and this was exceptionally different from the feeling of being drunk. The mushrooms might have begun to kick in. I don’t know why it’s way too late but it’s here and I’m feeling my nerves, bones and muscles become too light. I’m feeling lightheaded and I had to take a moment. It does feel good and pleasurable. “Look, I’m floating in the air.” I stood up and I felt like my feet are a few inches above the ground.
